Hello everyone, and welcome to the next installment of Investing On A Budget!  The goal of this article series is to provide investors and speculators with low-cost ways to invest in hot properties within the comic book community.  The focus of this article: Nova!!

Nova Vol. 4 #1

There is a lot to love about this book.  First and foremost, #1 issues tend to sell better than a lot of other books, in general.

Second, this book marks the beginning of an acclaimed Nova run from Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning as a part of their wider stewardship of Marvel Cosmic.   It is rarely a bad idea to invest in good storytelling, especially with fan-favorite runs like this one.

Third, this book serves as an epilogue to the incredible Annihilation event, which seems destined for MCU adaptation.

Fourth, this cover, along with all of the other incredible covers in this run, was designed by Adi Granov.  Granov is a very popular cover artist who absolutely knocked it out of the park here.

Add all that up and the result is a low-cost book with a ton of potential.

Nova Vol. 1 #8

One of the things that made Abnett and Lanning's run on Nova so sublime was the relationship between Richard Rider and the Xandarian Worldmind.  The Worldmind is the repository of all the knowledge acquired by the core and the primary means through which Richard controls the Nova force.  Its central goal of preserving the history of the Corps and the Xandarian people frequently brought it into direct conflict with Richard and his tendency to charge into dangerous situations headfirst.

This, in turn, lead to some really amazing interactions between the two that really elevated the already palpable drama that pervaded the book.  Given the MCU's tendency to pull from modern comics when adapting cosmic stories, it would not be particularly surprising to see this aspect of Abnett and Lanning's run make it into a movie or TV show.

Nova: Origin Of Richard Rider

Reprints, especially first reprints, can make for great alternative investments when investors are priced out of certain comics.  Be on the lookout for this book in back issue bins, it already sells for a decent amount right now and that is without any greater clarity on the direction of the MCU's Nova project.

This book also has a newsstand edition that is incredibly scarce, so make sure to check which edition you've found.

Fantastic Four #205

This book marks the first appearance of the wider Nova Corps organization in the comics.  The Corps is currently defunct in both the comics and the MCU, but that could easily be remedied.

Regarding the former, Marvel will almost certainly launch a new Nova series to tie into the MCU project.  That will create an easy opportunity for a writer to revive the Corps.  As for the MCU and its Nova project, the same logic can be applied.  Definitely not an investment to break the bank over, but still one with potential.

Nova Vol. 5 #1

This book is another great investment that never gets its due.  First off, it is a #1 issue, the benefits of which have already been discussed.  Second, this book is the first solo title for Sam Alexander, who took on the Nova mantle in 2012.  Third, this book contains the first appearance of Sam's family members.

Given the character's tremendous untapped potential in both the comics and MCU, investing in his supporting cast is a wise move.  That is a lot of value for a book that can still be found for $20 raw.

Conclusion
