Hello everyone and welcome to the second installment of Investing On A Budget!  The goal of this article series is to provide investors and speculators with low-cost ways to invest in hot properties within the comic book community.  The focus of this article: Elsa Bloodstone!

Who Is Elsa Bloodstone?

Elsa Bloodstone is the foremost monster hunter within the Marvel Universe.  The daughter of famed monster hunter Ulysses Bloodstone, Elsa was brutally trained by her father from a young age to take on his mantle once he was gone.  She is aided in this effort by the bloodstone, a powerful, magic relic and family heirloom that empowerers the wielder with heightened abilities.

Elsa has gone through several substantial changes in her short publication history; for the majority of that time, she has been known for her dry, sarcastic sense of humor, seemingly endless array of weapons, and deep family drama.  In recent years, Elsa has become something of a speculation darling. This is due to a combination of memorable stories, low print runs, MCU rumors, and much more.

The following is an attempt to help investors identify which Elsa books can still be found for a reasonable price that could one day see a big increase in value.

Bloodstone #2 - 4

The first appearance of a character named Elsa Bloodstone occured in the pages of Bloodstone #1.  This book was not highly printed and, as a result, is very expensive.  However, the three other books in this series are not.

Like #1, #2-4 all have very low print runs, exceptional story, and phenomenal covers that both lean into and subvert horror genre tropes.

These books are something of an afterthought right now. Still, that could change very quickly as Elsa's star continues to rise.

Nextwave #1 Directors Cut

After Bloodstone, the next time Elsa appeared was in the pages of Nextwave.  By now, however, his version of the character had undergone substantial changes.

The Elsa introduced in the pages of Bloodstone was blonde, American, had never met her father, and completely unfamiliar with monster hunting.  The version in Nextwave, however, is English, red-headed, was "trained" (the training essentially amounted to torture) by her father since birth, and had been hunting monsters since before she could remember.

Going forward, t his version would become the standard portrayal of Elsa and, as result, the first appearance of it should be considered a key.  The regular version of Nextwave #1 is not too expensive, but the director's cut is wildly undervalued.  Think of it as a second print.

Marvel Zombies Vol. 6

As I recently argued in an article series on high-quality Marvel stories, Volume 6 of Marvel Zombies is quite possibly the definitive Elsa Bloodstone story.  Unlike previous books, which either featured an abandoned version of Elsa or featured her in an ensemble, this series gives Elsa the starring role she deserves.  The result is a beautiful comic that takes the somewhat cartoony revamp featured in Nextwave. It then refines it with a compelling backstory, beautiful characterization, and deeply emotional plot.

Marvel Zombies Vol. 6 is essentially Elsa's origin story and, as such, should be considered a key series of books.  Prices on the main books are low right now. That will not last forever, especially if more substantive MCU news comes out.

Legion of Monsters #1

Legion of Monsters is a great Elsa investment book, especially right now.  Thanks to Morbius landing with a thud in theaters (twice), books starring him have absolutely plummeted in value.  As a result, this creates a great opening for investors on a budget to snag a low-print book written by a great writer that features Elsa on the cover.

This will never break the bank. Still, investors should definitely be able to buy with confidence knowing that this hidden gem will come back around.

Doctor Strange: Damnation #2

I saved the best for last!  Man, is this book wildly undervalued.  For those who are not aware, the Midnight Sons are essentially Marvel's supernatural version of the Avengers. As such, they have been the subject of heavy speculation.  This speculation has mainly centered around the original 90s incarnation of the team and almost completely ignored subsequent iterations.

This Donny Cates-penned book features the formation of a new Midnight Sons team, one that includes the erstwhile Elsa Bloodstone.  This roster features many characters that have either already been introduced in the MCU or are the subjects of intense speculation and rumors. Thus, this gives it a lot of potential to catch the community's attention as the supernatural corner of the MCU is built out.

Conclusion

That's all for this entry of Investing on a Budget!  Let me know of any other great budget Elsa books you can think of or if you have any suggestions for characters you'd like to see a writeup for.  Happy Hunting!
