Not even the reality gem can change the fact that Infinity War keys are losing value as we charge into Endgame.

As I've been telling you for the past two days, all those keys that were so popular a year ago have been losing steam. Prior, I told you how Thanos' first appearance in Invincible Iron Man #55 had been on the backslide, and yesterday it was Vision's debut in The Avengers #57 that was on the losing end. Today, it's Infinity Gauntlet #1.

This time last year and throughout much of 2018, Infinity Gauntlet #1 was among the most popular of key issues. Why wouldn't it be? MCU fans had been teased with Thanos and his gauntlet for years, getting glimpses of one or the other in two of the three Thor movies, and seeing the Mad Titan slip it on in the end credits scene of Avengers: Age of Ultron. When we finally got to see Thanos wield the gems/stones and give his epic snap, it was magnificent. How things change so quickly.

With the anticipation for Endgame devouring the Internet, it is a foregone conclusion that Thanos will be joining Lady Death by the time the end credits roll following Avengers 4. Unless there's some other plan for the Mad Titan, his omnipresence in the MCU has come to a close, and that has greatly affected prices for Infinity Gauntlet #1. We also have the indication that Endgame is detouring from the plot of 1991's Infinity Gauntlet series, which could also be affecting values.

During the past 90 days, all but one grade of Infinity Gauntlet #1 - the 6.5 - has lost value. For that matter, only two grades - the 6.5 and the 9.0 - have shown gains in their 12-month fair market values. Once Thanos is officially put away in Endgame, we can expect values to fall even more.

Take the 9.8 for example. Last year, it sold for as much as $380, and after selling 303 times, it finished the year with a solid FMV of $183. This year, despite 65 copies trading hands, it's only sold over $200 three times. As a side note, one of those three sales was for $800, which is an obvious outlier that should be tossed out of the statistical group. Minus that outlier, IG #1 has averaged $143 since the beginning of this year. Once the gauntlet is shelved in the MCU - at least for a time because I can see it being brought back around at some point - then the average will fall even further.

On the plus side, if you are a fan looking for a piece of Thanos history, now is a great time to purchase one. This has most definitely become a buyer's market, and you will soon be able to own the first appearance of the Infinity Gauntlet for some of the lowest prices in the past five years. The plus side is that you have a comic that could balloon in the event that Marvel decides to resurrect the Infinity Gauntlet in the future even if the Mad Titan doesn't happen to be the wielder.
