christmas posterI'm dreaming of collecting Christmas concert posters because it's the most wonderful time of the year to do so. It makes sense that often times New Year's Eve gets all the focus and excitement when it comes to concerts. However, Christmas has more gifts than one might imagine when it comes to live music. Since live music is largely a memory, for the time being, let's look at a few posters and shows that might just get us all into the holiday spirit after all.

Don't Sleep on Finding a Christmas Concert Poster

It was actually slightly surprising to find several different options when it came to searching for Christmas concert posters. I think part of the reason for that is perhaps the general consensus is that concerts aren't really happening around this time of year. With the exception of 2020 for obvious reasons, that's just not the case. If there's a particular kind of music you enjoy, there might just be a concert poster that'll fit your walls. Starting off with a fairly seasonal poster, John Legend is no stranger to crooning all year long:

There's a couple of perks when it comes to searching for Christmas posters. First, a good number of these pieces of art are fairly affordable, as it seems that holiday-related posters aren't always sought out (perhaps with some exceptions to July 4th posters). Second, the events taking place around the holidays are often not part of a larger tour, and if they are it's a smaller holiday tour.

While the "A Legendary Christmas Tour" in 2018 is a slight contradiction to the above statement (this tour was 24 shows from mid-November to mid-December 2018), this isn't the norm for holiday tours. This particular poster caught my eye, as Denver tour stops tend to do. This near mint condition poster is floating around the range of $15. What's nice about the price is that this isn't a reprint from what I can tell; that's not usually the case for this price range. Another noteworthy piece of history related to this poster is that John Legend had just achieved "EGOT" status in 2018; that is to say, in his career he's been awarded an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony award. It's not every day you find a musician who's accomplished that feat.

Should you be seeking out another genre, I might have just the thing for you.

A Slightly More Colorful Poster Option

Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, or anything else this time of year, the holiday season is a colorful one. If you're looking for something that reflects the season on that front, here's something fairly representative of that:

There is no possible way to adequately sum up The Allman Brothers Band in a few short sentences. A nearly fifty-year career deserves more than a few generic platitudes about their influence on rock and rhythm and blues, so I'll spare you of such things. This 2008 Christmas show took place in the golden years of the band's existence. This particular show preceded their 2009 string of concerts, celebrating their fortieth anniversary and the band considered it a career highlight. This Blake Wiley crafted poster appears to be in "brand new" condition according to the eBay listing and is listed as $220. Wiley also signed this poster, and it's a limited commodity as one of 300 from this Asheville, North Carolina show.

Holiday concert posters might be a good starting point when building your concert poster collection.
