You read these blogs, but have you ever checked-out the GoCollect Youtube channel?  Our host Regie does a great job covering the blogs with thoughtful analysis and personal insight on our topics.  Fans interact with Regie by posting in the comment sections. Well, this is my shout-out to commentator Mattronimus.  He posted on an area he said we never addressed.  He asked why do we not cover books from 2000 to the present that are not "major" keys, but still good books to own.  Well, I see you Mattronimus. Here are a few Modern books worth keeping an eye out for.

A Book to Sink Your Teeth Into

My first entry is a horror book with great art.  30 Days of Night #1 has a very interesting history. The film industry normally sees comics as potential film properties. In contrast, this book was originally written to serve as a movie plot.   Film studios rejected this story as a potential movie.  Then IDW Publishing saw the story's potential and turned it into a comic book.   The comic book was a major success. The comic book was then made into a movie.  A movie plot turned into a comic book that was then re-imagined as a movie.  Only in Hollywood.

Horror comic modern books are always in demand.  Buyers will ignore FMV prices for good books.  How in demand is this book?  I have seen people pay for the 2nd printing of this book as if it was the more valuable first printing.  This book is not an apparent major key book, but it is important. The fact that this book is not common makes it desirable. Other horror comics with similar print runs are seeing renewed interest.   I believe this is a solid horror book as it exists right now.

A Spider-Man villain that may be relevant

Spider-man villains are one area that investors can seek profit in. Many of the characters have become so popular that their first appearances draw top dollar when available.  One character that has fit that bill in comics and yet has potential in the MCU is Morlun.  A very powerful character that hunts characters with spider abilities across different universes.  Is your spider-sense tingling yet?

His first appearance is in Amazing Spider-Man #30 (Vol. 2). This is a book that is very affordable even in top grades right now, but it is not all that rare.  What again makes this book desirable is that the book has the first appearance of a major Spider-Man villain with  MCU/ Spider-verse potential.  He is a fresh villain that creators can re-imagine without drawing the indignation of long-time fans.  In addition, this book has the first appearance of Ezekiel Sims, a spider totem character.  Two first appearances of Spider-Man-related characters that are reasonably priced sound like a good reason to buy this book before others catch on.

One Crazy Origin

Comic Books that feature the origin of major characters are important issues.  Books that feature origins of characters are keys that have a good potential of increasing in value.  These books are also the target of collectors who value the comics because of the historical significance of these books in comic book storytelling.  The more important the character, the more valuable the book.   Suicide Squad #7 is a book you might want to own.  The book features the origin story for the iconic Harley Quinn.

Harley Quinn's origin has been told many times.  This is one origin book that seems to be ignored by collectors.   I can not understand the reason this book is not garnering more attention than it currently receives.  The origin story is a great telling of how Harley Quinn became the character we have grown to love.  The Joker appearance with Deadshot is even better.

There are 104 modern books in the CGC census.  A FMV for a 9.8 copy does not exceed $100.  My suggestion is either buy a 9.8 or look for a great raw copy at an even better price and take your chances.  Harley Quinn is popular and an inexpensive origin issue might be a wise choice to make with minimal risk and yet high reward potential.
