Bringing Up FatherMedia Release -- San Diego, CA (April 22, 2009) – This fall, IDW's Library of American Comics serves up laughs for all ages with George McManus's classic Art Deco comedy, Bringing Up Father. Featuring the famous storyline "From Sea to Shining Sea," the 272-page hardcover book invites comic fans young and old on an unforgettable family roadtrip, as the main characters Jiggs and Maggie celebrate their daughter's wedding by escorting the newlyweds on a trip across North America.

Designed by Eisner award-winning Dean Mullaney (Terry and the Pirates, Little Orphan Annie) and edited by Bruce Canwell (Scorchy Smith and the Art of Noel Sickles), "From Sea to Shining Sea" gives the deluxe treatment to this most famous of Bringing Up Father stories: the cross-country tour of 1939-40.

"All the fantastic Bringing Up Father Sunday pages will be carefully restored and presented in full color," Mullaney said. "George McManus championed Art Deco in comics, and the oversized 11" by 10" format is the best possible showcase for his wonderful designs and detailed artwork."

Debuting on January 12, 1913, Bringing Up Father features the new millionaire, Jiggs, whose desire to stay in his old blue-collar neighborhood is at odds with his wife Maggie's dream of high society. "From Sea to Shining Sea" sends Jiggs, Maggie, their daughter Nora and her new husband, the British Lord Nevere Worthnotten, on a cross-country trip that ranges from California to Kansas City, Chicago to Toledo, Philadelphia to Franklin Delano Roosevelt's house at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

"Bringing Up Father is a great addition to the Library of American Comics," said Greg Goldstein, chief operating officer for IDW. "Our goal is to offer comic fans the best of the classic comics in an enjoyable, updated format, and Dean has done just that once again. And this material will not be available anywhere else."

Before "According to Jim," "The King of Queens" and "The Honeymooners," Bringing Up Father brought domestic comedy into millions of homes each day. "From Sea to Shining Sea" highlights every joke-filled daily strip and each amazing Art Deco color Sunday page from January 2, 1939 to July 7, 1940.

"In addition to bringing back classic comics, The Library of American Comics has become known for its in-depth text essays," added Canwell. "Together, Brian Walker and I plan to give readers a comprehensive view of George McManus and his cockeyed cast of characters."

"From Sea to Shining Sea" releases in November 2009.
