Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle Reviews

Hulk #7
Marvel Comics
Loeb, Adams & Cho

Two hulk stories in one comic. While this issue is very entertaining you can’t really think about it too hard otherwise you realize the story doesn’t really exist. It’s a fun read with great artwork. If you are looking for anything more than a fight with some witty dialogue then you should probably find something else out there.

The first story has Banner tracking the red Hulk. He ends up in Vegas. He finds Wendigos eating some people in a casino. He gets mad and turns into the grey Hulk. That’s right, a third colored Hulk. Hulk battles and Moon Knight joins in the fight. Eventually Sentry & Ms Marvel show up and the story ends with a cliffhanger as to their intentions.

The second story has She-Hulk recruit Thundra and Valkyrie to help find red Hulk and beat on him. They find him and red Hulk shows again why he is the strongest. This story has more funny dialogue than the first one and it also has some creative visuals. Who knew Thundra and Valkyrie shopped at Victoria’s Secret?

On the surface the issue is fast and fun. It’s got some great art in it to boot. It has a great fight scene between grey Hulk and the Wendigo and it has creative fighting in the second story. However, the story really doesn’t make a ton of sense.

Banner was locked up by the government. He’s freed accidentally and is allowed to wander free with no one chasing him? Red Hulk also escaped SHIELD and yet, now, Iron Man and the rest have decided to just leave him alone and let him walk around unchecked? Why wouldn’t red Hulk want to continue to track down Banner if his objective is to kill the green/grey Hulk? Why does Banner revert back to Mr Fixit when he is in Vegas? Where the heck are the Warbound? Okay, maybe that question is irrelevant.

This was also the first backup comic strip in the back that I thought was a little cheesy. But I do still like them.

So if you like some fighting and a loose story, but not mindless pounding on people then this issue is fairly good. I can’t say I have a clue where this is all going. Perhaps the idea is to keep rolling out two or three Marvel heroes to fight the two Hulks. That could last for twenty plus issues so I suppose that will work. Read at your own risk.
