Now that Spider-Man: No Way Home has been out for a few weeks, what's going on with Daredevil keys? For those who haven't seen it yet, spoilers are ahead!

If you haven't seen it by now, I'm sorry to be the one to spoil it for you. But Matt Murdock (played by Charlie Cox), aka Daredevil, aka Man Without  Fear, aka Devil of Hell's Kitchen, makes an appearance as Peter Parker's lawyer in Spider-Man: No Way Home. I won't admit how much of a fan-girl I was when he popped up on the screen but I am more than happy to dig into what this inaugural MCU appearance did for the value for key Daredevil books. How are they performing just over a month after the release of the movie? Are they all priced to the moon now or are they affordable?

For this exercise, I will be aiming to find the trends for the 50th percentile book on the CGC census. Let's dig in and find out what's happening to ole' Horn Head.

Daredevil #1

You probably know Daredevil #1 was having a renaissance before December 2021. I have written about that book ad nauseum and always felt it was an underrated and undervalued key. Now, the price is climbing to levels where it should be. As recently as summer 2020, this book was selling for under $2,000.

In the three months leading up to Spider-Man: No Way Home, six recorded sales of a CGC 4.5 grade averaged $4,705. In the three recorded sales since the movie premiered, the average was $5,935, or a 26% increase from September-mid December 2021.

I get the feeling this is not the ceiling either. We essentially saw a 10-second cameo from Matt Murdock in the movie, and we already got one tagline: "I'm a really good lawyer." When we actually have some Daredevil news or actionable info, this thing is getting yet another spike. For as much as it has ballooned in the past couple years, there is still plenty more sky for this to climb.

Amazing Spider-Man #16

Published just five months after the release of Daredevil #1, this crossover was the first meeting between Spider-Man and the new sensation, Daredevil. in Amazing Spider-Man #16, Daredevil is still in his original yellow suit and it marks an interesting pivot to the early Spider-Man canon. It breaks up a long string of villain introductions from issues #1-#20 and also helped propel Man Without Fear into the mainstream.

For CGC grade 6.5 copies of this book, we have evidence of four books being sold between August and early December 2021. The average of those four sales was $1,138. In the four sales since the movie premiered, the sales come to about $1,387 per book. This represents a 21.8% increase for this small sample.

This one could be skewed because all things Spidey shot up around the time of the movie, but this unique issue with Spider-Man joining forces with the Man Without Fear surely got an extra bump after the surprise appearance.

Daredevil #16

By the time Daredevil #16 rolled around, Spider-Man reciprocated and crossed over into Daredevil's volume. This book also comes with an added bonus of a unique artist situation. At the time of publication, John Romita was drawing Daredevil. So when it came time to mock up issue #16, he was given permission to do the Spider-Man parts as well, meaning this was the first time we ever see Romita Sr. draw Spidey.

There wasn't much movement in the fall for this book in a 50th-percentile CGC 7.0 grade. But between May and early December 2021, we have five instances of this selling. The average here is a reasonable $449. But since then, there have been three sales just in a month averaging $584, or a 30% increase based on what we have available.

January has seen two sales of this book: $725 and $576. Once we have more data points we will begin to see where the dust settles here and just how much higher the fair market value increased for this Daredevil book. For now, it remains mostly affordable considering both characters' cultural popularity.

Daredevil #168

The first appearance of Elektra might not, at first glance, seem to have its needle moved by No Way Home and the Daredevil appearance. But usually, these are "rising tide lifts all boats" situations and Elektra's first book in Daredevil #168 is arguably Daredevil's greatest villain issue. Plus, this book is much more reasonably priced than a rare Silver Age masterpiece, so it will be interesting to see how a book with more supply and less demand does.

This book had a lot of hits in the late summer/fall of 2021. Part of that might be due to the introduction of Elektra as Daredevil in the modern comic run while Matt Murdock was in prison. The average of 12 CGC 9.2 books from August to mid-December was $369. In the six sales since the movie came out? An average of $398 or 8% higher, on average.

What we suspected seems to be true. This book did get a somewhat regular bump in value, but significantly below the level of the early Silver Age mega keys that have a direct impact on Spider-Man and Daredevil.

What Keys Are You Looking For?

There are, of course, many other Daredevil keys we could consider: the first Bullseye, the first Daredevil versus Punisher, and the debut of Daredevil's red costume, just to name a few. What we are seeing across the board is that Daredevil is getting the traditional MCU bump, as much as 30% in Silver Age keys.

With the future seemingly wide open for the MCU version of Daredevil, what are you hunting? Are you still targeting Daredevil #1 or looking for other keys? Let me know in the comments!
