Star Wars, Superman, and Thor were the key characters when it came to Hot Modern Comics making moves so far in the month of June. Why the heat? Here's our analysis. The summer movie season is officially upon us.  Thor: Love and Thunder ads are all over your social media feed and showing up in whatever show you may be watching (including the NBA finals).

So it is not a surprise that several of the top-moving Modern books are related to the movie, such as -  Thor #1 (2014) and Thor: God of Thunder #2 - which are the #1 and #3 Movers at the moment.  Modern Age books have a huge range of art and stories and it isn't surprising to see relatively new books soar in value and popularity.

Everyone Loves 'Baby Yoda'

One of the top-moving Modern books is Star Wars: Darth Vader #20 (Sprouse 50th Anniversary cover).  This book has shot up 40 places in the sales charts, from #47 to #7!

I have previously tracked Darth Vader #3 (2015), which is the first appearance of Dr. Aphra, but this book was a surprise to me.  The cover art is great and it is the first cover appearance of Din Djarain and Grogu.

As a Mandalorian fan, I should have found this book earlier - but it is exploding now.

Welcome Sabine Wren

Kanan: The Last Padawan #1 has also shot up the sales charts.  It has recently moved up twenty-one places to land at #21 in the sales charts.  CGC recognizes this book as the first appearance of the Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren (although many collectors consider this just a cameo appearance).

The buzz is that the pending Disney+ series focusing on Ashoka will include Sabine Wren and her character for the live-action series has been cast.  The series is rumored to be based on the search for Ezra Bridger, who also first appears in this book.

A Hero for Our Times

A new appearance on the Modern Age sales chart down at #40 is the first issue of the first born of Clark Kent and Lois Lane - Superman: Son of Kal-El #1.  Jon Kent, the son of Superman, is proving to be an interesting character.  This first issue now just a year old is rising in popularity but still showing an FMV of less than $100.

Interestingly, his book and character are that Jon is a hero addressing issues relevant to readers today, such as equity and climate.  The cover is a take-off of the classic 1939 Superman cover and would certainly look great graded and hanging on your wall.  This is a DC book and series worth grabbing now.
