Moon Knight and Ghost Rider may not have been the top movers in the Hottest Comics, but their issues made waves that are worth your attention. This is a weekly update so if you missed last week check it out.

HOTTTEST COMICS LIST

The big movers and the top-10 comics get the flashy numbers in the rankings. When you look closer, patterns begin to emerge, and it gives us clues about the comic market. A light reminder that the hottest comics list is created by tracking the number of sales per comic not the value of sales.

The most obvious is Moon Knight. With all the recent fervor for the Disney+ series, collectors and speculators alike are gunning for his keys. More interesting is that his lesser-known keys were much more popular than his major appearances.

The keen speculator will study more than just the top 100. That is where you will find this week’s hidden gem: Ghost Rider. Let’s dive a little deeper in this week’s takeaways.

4. MOON KNIGHT #1 (+53)

Moon Knight

Moon Knight’s epic leap in the rankings over the past few weeks has been nothing out of the ordinary. Now that the lead in the Moon Knight Disney+ series has been cast, collectors are all over his key issues. What was more of a surprise was that his minor keys stole the spotlight from his first appearance.

This week, the fourth-highest ranking Hottest Comic was Moon Knight #1. While this is not his debut or even his second appearance, it is notable for being his first self-titled series. Its jump into the top five was extraordinary, jumping 53 places to reach the fourth spot. That put it ahead of Werewolf by Night #32, which gained 19 positions this week, but it ranked just 73rd.

26. MOON KNIGHT #14 (+244)

Moon KnightA lesser known issue that made the list was Moon Knight #14. This issue featured the first appearance of Stained Glass Scarlet. The big deal here is that she has been confirmed as the villain for the Disney+ series, and that has made her debut comic an overnight sensation. Over the past week, it made impressive moves, climbing 244 places to reach #26. With Scarlet making her live-action debut, this is a comic that will stay in the top 100 for the next few weeks.

GHOST RIDER

It is easy to overlook Ghost Rider’s major gains.

Granted, none cracked the top 30, but seven different Ghost Rider comics ranked inside the top 200. More impressive is that they gained anywhere from 179 to as many as 954 positions in the past week.

37. MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #5 (+179)

On the surface, it may seem that Ghost Rider is not a big player in the collecting world at the moment, but this week’s index tells a different story. Marvel Spotlight #5, the first appearance of the modern Ghost Rider, rose 179 positions and is #37 in the rankings. Only a couple weeks ago, this issue had taken a significant drop. Seeing it recoup from that is a good sign for the Rider.

At #46 and #47 are two prints of Ghost Rider #15. Both issues made notable gains, with the glow-in-the-dark second print picking up 954 positions and the standard edition taking 953 places.

177. GHOST RIDER #1 1990 (+823)

Scroll down to the 177th slot, and you will find Ghost Rider #1, which happens to be the first appearance of Danny Ketch. That issue gained an impressive 823 spots. Just behind it in 178th is Ghost Rider #2, a comic that rose 821 places.

Keep scrolling, and you will find both printings of Ghost Rider #5 in 180th and 181st. Each issue jumped over 800 positions this week.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Between the two, speculators have more reason to stay hot on Moon Knight than Ghost Rider, but the latter will be the most fun to watch. There is no doubt that Ghost Rider will return to the silver screen in the future, and that could fuel the speculation and keep his keys climbing for another week.
