Spider-Man littered the rankings, Omega Red continued to prove his endurance among collectors, and the Hobgoblin made his mark on this week’s Hottest Comics. This is a weekly speculation so if you missed last week check it out.

HOTTEST COMICS MOVERS FROM THE TOP 10

Every week the Hottest Comics list gets updated and there is a new line up for the top ten. Here are some movers from our top 10!

2. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #252 (+5)

While it was no surprise to see ASM #252 keeping pace in the top-10 Hottest Comics, it did catch me off guard to see it ascend to second place. Just a week ago, this was the seventh-most traded comic online, and that tends to be where this issue stays. To see it making a run at the top spot has been impressive, thought I do not picture it overtaking ASM #300 for first place.

What makes this issue special is that it is tied for the first appearance of the Venom symbiote in the monthly publications. The other candidates for the title are Marvel Team-Up #141 and Spectacular Spider-Man #90, though ASM #252 has the best cover among the three, recreating Spider-Man’s debut in Amazing Fantasy #15. That beautiful cover art keeps this the favorite of the three issues.

3. X-MEN #4 (+6)

Hottest ComicsIf Omega Red’s first appearance is this popular now, imagine what story the numbers will tell once he is officially confirmed for the MCU?

For several months, the rumors have been rampant about “Big Red” joining the cast of characters for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. So far, there has been nothing but gossip on the subject, and some stories even featured “leaked” set photos of Omega Red (that happened to be from Deadpool 2 concept art).

Marvel Studios has said nothing on the subject, and that is the likely reason we are still seeing large sales volume for X-Men #4. Even if the rumors of him being on Disney+ are debunked, that will only mean the speculation will shift to him coming to the MCU with Wolverine and the X-Men.

6. MOON KNIGHT #1 (+64)

Out of all the characters set to make their Disney+ debut, fans seem to be most excited about Moon Knight. He had been rumored for the MCU for years before last year’s big announcement about his live-action series. Now the question is who will put on the mask and hood? Rumors abound on this topic, but Marvel Studios has been mum. That interest is what has propelled this issue more than 60 positions and nearly into the top five.

This particular comic is the first solo Moon Knight series, and it is much hotter than Werewolf by Night #32, which is Moon Knight’s first appearance. Yet, WBN #32 did not rank in the top-100 Hottest Comics. Why is that? It simply reflects WBN #32’s inflated prices. Certainly, Werewolf #32 is the bigger key in the Moon Knight pantheon, but the price is out of reach for many collectors. Moon Knight #1, however, is a much more affordable and therefore more-viable option.

7. SPIDER-MAN #1 SILVER EDITION (+10)

Hottest ComicsThis is a great example of how the Hottest Comics index reflects sales volume, not price jump. Spider-Man #1 is one of the most-produced comics in the history of the industry. It has iconic Todd McFarlane artwork, which is always a selling point for a key issue, and there are numerous variants to choose from. It just so happens that everyone gunned for the silver-webbed cover this week.

As far as price, this one is relatively easy to afford, even at a 9.8. So far in October, we have seen a slight increase in fair market value. Normally, this is a $60 comic, but October has seen it consistently sell for over $70 and one even cracked the $100 mark.

10. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #238 (+40)

Rounding out the top 10 this week is the first appearance of the Hobgoblin in ASM #238. This is not the only Hobgoblin issue making waves over the past seven days. Amazing Spider-Man #312 jumped nearly 800 places before coming to a rest in the 27th position. What does this mean for the Hobgoblin? Are there new MCU rumors regarding Hobby’s onscreen future? Not really, but actor Jacob Batalon has said that he would like to see Peter Parker’s sidekick evolve into the MCU’s Hobgoblin. That alone is not enough to impact sales this much, considering that ASM #238 jumped 40 positions from 50th to tenth. With all the Spider-Man movie rumors, it is natural to speculate on Hobgoblin joining the cast. It also doesn’t hurt this issue that it features the iconic John Romita, Jr. and John, Sr. artwork, and cover collectors will always seek this one.

HOTTEST COMICS BIGGEST MOVERS

Got two for you this week! Were you one of the people to get out there and see one of these out last week?

30. MS. MARVEL #1 (+926)

Hottest ComicsWith Kamala Khan officially cast for Disney+, speculators have been fawning over her early key issues. Although this 2014 issue is not her first appearance, it is her first starring role in a solo series, and that has made it kindling for the speculative fires. Once we see her in full costume, expect another jump in values.

31. STAR WARS FORCES OF DESTINY #1: AHSOKA & PADME CONVENTION EDITION (+968)

The biggest winner this week was a Star Wars variant, and this issue gained over 960 positions to rest in the 31st spot. Why is it so hot? The new season of The Mandalorian has excited Star Wars fans and collectors worldwide, and it has trickled into the comic realm. Anything directly tied to The Mandalorian has been making waves, and having Ahsoka on the cover of Forces of Destiny makes it a prime target for speculators.

OTHER BIG MOVERS

These may not have moved 900 spaces, but they went from nowhere near the top 50 to almost the top 10, so it's worth it to check them out.

14. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #344 (+251)

Spider-Man’s villains held their own in the Hottest Comics index this week. First, we had the Venom symbiote making gains, then there was Hobgoblin, and now we see the first appearance of the original Carnage host, Cletus Kasady, picking up the pace. While ASM #361 is the mainstay in the top five, Cletus’ debut tends to get overshadowed. This week, it climbed 251 spots and clawed its way into the top-15 best-selling comics.

12. UNCANNY X-MEN #221 (+106)

Hottest ComicsIt was a big week for Mister Sinister. Among several characters reimagined by Jonathan Hickman for his X-Men run, Sinister skirts the line between good and evil. He also has been given a larger role in the overall X-verse with more humor in his personality. That has endeared him to many X-Men fans both new and longtime. The end result is it has made UXM #221 one of the most popular keys from the past week.
