As Halloween approaches, it’s time to reflect on the past month’s worth of collecting to see what comic trends October had in store.

If you dig deeper into the Hottest Comics, you can find buying patterns that can keep you at the forefront of the collecting hobby. Remember that these rankings are based on sales and not prices realized. With that in mind, let’s look at those trends for the past 30 days.

comic trends71. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #238 (+29)

Will we see Hobgoblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home? That has been the burning question for the past couple of months, and it only intensified after the NWH trailer.

While we heard Willem Dafoe’s iconic Goblin laugh, we did not actually see his face; this raises questions about him appearing in the film. That has led to theories that Peter’s goofy sidekick, Ned Leeds, will follow his comic roots and take up the moniker of the Hobgoblin as part of the Sinister Six.

This is leading collectors to ASM #238 more each week as the countdown for NWH has begun.

comic trends97. THE BATMAN ADVENTURES #12 (-50)

Over the past decade, Harley Quinn has become a pop culture phenomenon unto herself. She’s been featured in three live-action movies, made countless animated appearances, and you will be overrun with Harley cosplayers every Halloween until the end of time.

How much Harley is too much Harley? Throughout October, collectors were shying away from her comic debut in TBA #12. Of course, much of that can be attributed to escalating prices, considering that The Suicide Squad premeried in August. Still, it will be worth watching to see if it rebounds in November.

comic trends90. FANTASTIC FOUR #94

One of this month’s newcomers to the top-100 Hottest Comics has been FF #94. Collectors should recognize that issue number since it was a hot commodity in the spring. But why is it listed as one of our comic trends?

This is the first appearance of Agatha Harkness, who stole the show as the villain in WandaVision. Marvel announced plans for an Agatha spinoff series, and that has lit the beacons for FF #94 once again, and it launched her first appearance back into the top 100.

29. WAR OF THE REALMS: NEW AGENTS OF ATLAS #1 (+10)

After FBI Special Agent Jimmy Woo made his triumphant return to the MCU in WandaVision, it stands to reason that he will return alongside Agatha Harkness in her upcoming series. The bigger picture is that Woo has been rumored to lead an Agents of Atlas movie or live-action series for years now.

In the comics, Woo is a SHIELD agent who recruits the members of the newest team. One of these members happens to be the MCU’s latest star, Shang-Chi. That is leading to more theories that the Agents of Atlas are coming, especially since the Shang-Chi sequel will reportedly begin filming in 2023.

76. NOVA #1 (-30)

This is an interesting comic in light of recent news. What the data suggests is that up to this point, collectors were shying away from Nova’s first appearance in favor of those Warlock keys after he was confirmed for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

This week, there are rumors that Marvel Studios will begin filming a Nova feature film in 2023, which will undoubtedly fuel a shift in momentum for Nova #1. By this time next month, I expect we will see the polar opposite result compared to October’s numbers.
