Bronze Age ComicsI use the default 30-day setting for my reports.  This eliminates pure speculative picks or abnormalities from the data. However, analyzing the Market Overview Top 100 for Bronze Age comics utilizing the past 10-day setting is a perfect way to see what books may soon appear on the 30-day list.  This function also lets me see if people are buying online hype; if F.O.M.O might be infecting a book; and if an unknown book that is moving warrants a more in-depth analysis.  I also look at raw books and live auctions to add to my intel.  Here are four books that are moving that may soon appear on the Top 100 Bronze Age Comics list, along with an assessment of their investment potential based upon the GoCollect numbers. I believe that in order to provide accurate reports on movers in the Top 100, you have to maintain a proper sampling size.  PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE BOOKS ARE NOT LISTED IN ANY  PARTICULAR ORDER.

Bronze Age ComicsPrimetime Future Impact Book #1 - Iron Fist #1

Background on the Comic Book:

This is the first issue of the character's first self-titled ongoing series.  The character was successful enough in his Marvel Premier tryout to graduate to his own series.

External Factors Influencing this Comic Book:

The Netflix Marvel Series have slowly been introduced as canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.   Now, these shows appear on the Disney platform. People seem to be slowly gravitating to these Netflix characters as a result.  Marvel Premiere #15 and Luke Cage, Hero for Hire #1 have risen on the Top 100 lists in anticipation of the characters' reemergence.  The MCU tends to give a bump to key issues that involve the characters that appear in that universe.  Danny Rand is almost guaranteed to appear in the MCU as either a minor character or to install another character who assumes the position of Iron Fist.

Reviewing the Numbers

Iron Fist #1 has fewer than 450 total copies graded in the two highest grades.  This is an extremely low population for a key Bronze Age Comics first issue.  Next, you look at the 30-day averages and you see across the board that no issues are moving.  It should also be noted that this book does not appear in the most recent Top 100 movers in the 10-day analysis. So why was it added to this report, you may ask.

Two 9.8 copies sold for a verified total of approximately $1,800.00.  The FMV for a 9.6 copy is only $600.  The numbers are ripe for speculators and investors to begin to take an interest in this book.  You also take a peek at Marvel Premier #15 books and you see a slight decline in the 90-day to 30-day averages.  The drop is only slight. The book, though, regularly appears in the Bronze Age Comics Top 100 lists.  When I plugged it into my 30 day analysis it sits at position #31 and is up 41 spots. If any Iron Fist news hits, both of these issues will only go up in value.

Future Top 100 Potential

This is a book to watch. The MCU investors and speculators look for any keys that can earn profits.  This is one issue that can.  Speculators will start to creep in thinking that Iron Fist will one day reappear in the MCU.  If you see Marvel Premiere #15 start to move then Iron Fist #1 will be the next key people target.

Keep an eye on it and watch raw books too.   Speculators may first start to go to those books, playing the long game.  This is so their hands are not caught in a cookie jar with the graded books sales reports.  Well, I am watching and seeing what you are doing in the raw markets...YOU ARE NOW BUSTED! Bronze Age Comics

Primetime Future Impact Book #2 - Daredevil #158

Background on the Comic Book

This is the first issue of Frank Miller's involvement with the title.  Many items that make up the Daredevil mythos either started or were refined with this run.  Frank Miller is an industry icon and if you want to get one of his more important issues this is a good book to own.

External Factors Influencing this Comic Book

Charlie Cox's Matt Murdoch has already appeared in the MCU on both the small and large screen.  Matt Murdoch will also probably appear in the She-Hulk to further cement his presence in the MCU.  Even if this is only a rumor people will start to go invest in Daredevil key books out of FOMO.

Reviewing the Numbers

There's no real sales to report within the last 30 days, only a 7.0 copy that sold for $90.  There are 800 copies in the census, so there may not be that many books to be sold.  When a book has low population numbers people tend to overprice a book.  The books will sit until the demand reaches that price.  The demand is not to that point yet where people are buying this book.

The problem with this book is that it is a key only because of Frank Miller.  Artist's keys are not as important a factor in the comic book market when compared to storyline and character keys.  That is the reason the numbers are not quite there yet, but this book is again being listed on the 10-day market review Hot 100, so who am I to judge?

Future Top 100 Potential

This book will always be a key, but is it the key you want?  I checked out the GoCollect Facebook page and saw our social media researchers mention a 6.5 copy of Daredevil #1 sold for $6,900 at a Heritage Auction on April 10, the lowest price for that grade since June 2020.    If you have not liked that  Facebook page, please do so - you will get even more updates on comic book news that can help you navigate the field. I know, I follow it. That said...

ALL DAREDEVIL KEYS HAVE BEEN UNDERVALUED FOR YEARS! This book probably will appear in the Top 100 soon, but investors should spend their money wisely.  I would much rather add a Daredevil #1 graded a  .5 or a 6.0 Daredevil #2  (2nd Electro Appearance) for roughly the same price I could add a 9.8 Daredevil #158, and I am a major fan of Frank Miller!  If you are a Frank Miller collector, please add this book soon - before you have to pay a premium for this book.

Primetime Future Impact Book #3 - Batman #227

Background on the Comic Book

This is a classic homage cover that swipes the imagery from Detective Comics #31Neal Adams covers are things of beauty and this issue is no exception. This issue is also the last known appearance of Daphne Pennyworth, Alfred's niece.

External Factors Influencing this Comic Book

Neal Adams artwork is always in demand.  The Bronze Age Comics Top 100 usually has Batman #251 on the list.  That issue features the classic Joker cover.  The only external news I could think of that might have made this book appear in the Top 100 on the 10-day list was that I received an invite from a Neal Adams Facebook page and that Neal Adams was making comments on his work again.  If this is what it takes to drive a Neal Adams work, I am saddened. His work is too good to need outside factors to drive sales.

Reviewing the Numbers

The stand-out is the 8.5 grade. The 30-day average saw a $531 jump from the 90-day average (FMV $2,200).  A fixed eBay sales drove this price increase.  This sale was not out of the norm.

Roughly 1700 copies exist in the CGC census.  That number should be compared with the over 3000 copies of Batman #251 in the CGC census (FMV $1,200). I know it does not have the Joker on the cover, but the fact that it has a low census number intrigues me.  If you are sensing a trend that I like books with low census numbers, you are catching on.

Future Top 100 Potential

This book may not appear in the Bronze Age Top 100 only because of the low census numbers.  The low population may make Neal Adams' fans and collectors hold onto the book.  That is good news for investors but bad news for collectors.  If you see the book for sale then you should buy it and hold it for the long-term potential.  If you want, you can also list it for a very high asking price because you may just get a sale or a very good offer in return. A collector may need that book and pay your asking price. Bronze Age Comics

Primetime Future Impact Book #4 - Amazing Spider-man #200

Background on the Comic Book

This issue is the 200th Anniversary issue of the title.  In this issue, the burglar that killed Uncle Ben dies.  This issue features a John Romita Sr. cover, but it is not iconic.  I also have been told that Stan Lee was the writer for one page of the comic because of the special anniversary of the comic.

External Factors Influencing this Comic Book

Spiderman: No Way Home was released recently to home movie fans.  It will probably be the most sold movie at retail stores and online for the next month.  The internet is full of all kinds of Spider-Man rumors as well.  It should be noted, though, that nothing substantial has been reported on the character that can be verified at this time.

Reviewing the Numbers

There is nothing new to report on the Direct Edition. The Newsstand Edition had the same 30 and 90-day average.  Nothing stands out in any of the FMV or even the census numbers that makes me say I could provide an opinion on this book.  My analysis does not show anything in the numbers that would warrant special consideration, and yet the book appears on the 10-day hot list.

Future Top 100 Potential

The numbers are just not there to say this book will be a permanent addition to my regular 30-day Top 100 lists soon.  The reason I use the larger time frame is to see patterns.  It is from that that I was able to deduce something known for a long time by Amazing Spider-Man fans that was revealed in my data analysis; his books sell well and normally appreciate in value.

Normally, there are a ton of major and minor keys of this title on the Top 100 list.  As the major keys and early books start to get priced out, most consumers will go to the lesser keys and they start to appear on the lists.  I believe these price increases explain this book's interest in the market.  There's nothing of significance about his book and yet for the long-term investor or newbie, this book makes sense and cents.

Next Week Preview

Next week, we will be back to check out the big movers on the Top 100 list.  Maybe we will see some surprises or some old familiar friends. Either way, the Bronze Age is an Age of Comics that has numerous issues that are both historically iconic and also books you can still afford.  No other era can say that!

Do you think these books will hit the 30-day list? Let us know in the comments!
