There's nothing I love more than the horror genre. From books to comics, to even video games, if it's horror themed I'm game for it. Each week I look through the various Heritage auctions in hopes of finding something for my collection. While I primarily only collect Creature from the Black Lagoon, I will branch out every blue moon for something truly unique. This week's auction has a lot of horror games, ranging from family-friendly to not-so-family friendly. Keep the lights on for this one, it's about to get spooky!

Friday the 13th

LJN's take on Friday the 13th, one of the most well-known franchises in horror, was pretty horrific in itself. This game wasn't a ton of fun to play, but it did give us some cool color variations of Jason, the iconic masked killer. This is a WATA graded 9.8, and it's sealed, making this both an investor and collector's piece. The one-year average on similar WATA 9.8s is sitting at $1,788. The last sale of a similarly graded game was $720 and sold in July of 2022.

Akumajou Dracula

The original Castlevania game that started it all. Without this game, we would have never gotten the English adaptations, so it's any wonder why this copy hasn't gotten more attention. Don't let the Japanese versions scare you off -- a lot of times the boxes will have different art, and there's something uniquely cool about owning them as well.

This version is also a Famicon Disk System version, which is very different than the Famicom / Nintendo cartridges we know.

This is a unique collectible. This is a VGA graded 80, and while there are no other similar sales to compare with, ungraded complete games have been selling for under $80 on eBay.

Heritage also has a copy of Castlevania for the Nintendo 64 in this auction. This WATA sealed 8.5 is a sight to behold, and it's also the first Castlevania to feature 3D graphics. The one-year average on this game is $408, so this could be a reasonable piece of buy for the right price.

Bram Stoker's Dracula

Bram Stoker's Dracula is one of my favorite movies. With its beautiful visuals and sometimes questionable acting, the movie has become a staple in my rewatch list. The Super Nintendo game adaptation might not have been my favorite, but it's still worth having in your Dracula collection.

This WATA sealed 9.0 is the second highest graded out of five total. While there is no sales data for prior 9.0 copies, the one-year average for an 8.5 is $282.

AAAHH!!! Real Monsters

I know, I know. This isn't exactly horror for adults, but kids should be able to enjoy monster shows as well. This 1990s Nickelodeon staple was one of my favorite shows growing up, and I loved playing this game. This copy is a WATA sealed 9.2, and should go for a good price for the right buyer.

This isn't a particularly popular collector's piece but would do well for someone who genuinely liked the show. Currently, there is no sales data for other 9.2 copies, but the yearly average on a 9.0 is $129, while the year average on a 9.4 is $171.
