With the holidays right around the corner, now is the perfect time to find the perfect gift for yourself or a loved one. Hakes's November-focused action figure auction is the perfect place to find some truly unique examples of some of our favorite action figures. From mint-in-box MEGO to Japanese Spider-Man figures, this auction is pretty encapsulating! We've been talking about action figures a lot, and for good reason. Toys are just plain fun to collect!

Just like the other Hakes auctions we've recently covered, this action figure-focused auction ends November 14 - 15 2022.

MEGO 12.5" Batman Factory Sealed

MEGO figures are some of the most collectible toys in the hobby. At one point MEGO was the gold standard with figures being released for a number of popular comics, cartoons, movies, and television shows. This 12.5" factory-sealed Batman is not something we see often. Hakes notes this box as being in Very Fine condition, while the figure itself is Near Mint. This would be an attractive figure for any collector.

In September 2022, a similar MEGO Batman in the box sold for $568 with little known on the overall condition. The last time a similar figure sold on Heritage was in December of 2012 for $203, so it is safe to assume prices increased for this figure.

Spider-Man & Leopardon Boxed Figure Set

If you've never seen the live-action Japanese Spider-Man show from 1978 you are missing out. This tokusatsu (special effects) show came out a few years after Super Sentai (Power Rangers in America) was created for Japanese television, and leans heavily into typical sentai tropes. This show is truly amazing, and even gives Spider-Man a giant robot -- the Leopardon!

Hakes notes the box as being in Fine with the figures being in New Mint (as they were never played with) condition. Loose vintage Popy Spider-Man figures aren't hard to find but expect to pay around $130 for one. Finding Leopardon is harder, but still expect to pay $120 for him as well. I could see this set breaking over $150 for the right buyer. This set is hard to come by stateside, so this is a chance to own something truly amazing!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder Series 1

If you played with TMNT toys as a kid there was one figure you absolutely needed. Shredder. The Turtles' main antagonist has followed the group since his initial introduction in May of 1984 and has become just as well known as the teenage turtles. Shredder was released in series one, and while his figure does seem to be largely overlooked, it's still an important piece fo a complete collection.

This AFA 75+ EX+/NM is a wonderful piece. The back of the card even indicates that Shredder is "The Bad Guy Leader" which is truly funny. In September 2022 a few AFA graded pieces sold. On eBay, an AFA 80 Shredder sold for $421 after ten bids, while an AFA 85 sold for $1225 after 28 bids. On Heritage, an AFA 80 sold in late September for $720, while a few days prior an AFA 80 sold for $552. While grade matters, this could be an affordable win for the right collector.
