‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Trailer Reveals the High Evolutionary

There’s much to love about the latest footage. We get the usual comedy stylings of James Gunn with Drax pelting a kid with a ball to the face. Then our heartstrings get tugged with a glimpse at Rocket’s origin story. Is Star-Lord crying for him at the end of the footage? We’ll have to wait and see.

Along with Adam Warlock, the film will also introduce Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary. A gifted geneticist who evolved into a godlike being, he appears to be the catalyst to the Guardians’ final foray on the big screen. However, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Iwuji in full High Evolutionary regalia. During the GOTG panel at San Diego Comic-Con, he took the stage and remained in full character throughout the session. If you haven’t seen the clip, it is glorious.

Now that HE will be invading the MCU, it will no doubt turn up the heat on his key issues. Here’s your market report.

THOR #134

The first item you will want on your wish list is Thor #134. After a brief mention in the previous comic, the High Evolutionary made his grand entrance in this issue. It appears the Guardians’ resident mad scientist will be the main antagonist for Vol. 3, so we can assume he probably won’t make it past this film. Normally, that would put a ceiling on his first appearance, but since he is nigh immortal in the comics, there are all sorts of ways to bring him back. That could not only extend his MCU stay, but it could also extend the shelf life of Thor #134.

Need a copy to call your very own? While the near-mint grades will easily cost you four figures, the 8.0 has mostly been in the $500-$600 range this year.

MARVEL PREMIERE #1

In case you needed another reason to want Marvel Premiere #1, the GOTG trailer offered a look at what many believe is High Evolutionary’s pride and joy, Counter-Earth. The main selling point for this issue has been the transition of HIM to Warlock. However, HE makes his comic return here, and he introduces his alternate world. In the trailer, we see the Guardians arrive on a planet that seems to be a carbon copy of Earth, only with anthropomorphic animals in place of humans.

While upper grades are selling for $800+ these days, everything up to the 7.5 has been selling for $200 or less.

HIGH TIDE

With High Evolutionary’s potential to return to the MCU post-GOTG Vol. 3, we could see much more from him in the future. For that matter, he could take on a Loki-type role and transition into an entertaining and lovable anti-hero. In fact, with HE’s ties to the world of Thor, we could see him interacting with the God of Mischief in the future. Putting Tom Hiddleston and Iwuji together on the screen would be worth the cost of admission.

James Gunn has a weird sense of humor. Adults hurting kids is not ok, even if it’s done in humor His movies are also too silly for adults and too crude for kids. Another disappointment from Disney and Marvel.
