Heritage is making 2023 the year of the video game collector. This week alone we've seen a handful of focus auctions for different video game eras, such as this 8-bit to 64-bit Showcase Auction. Focusing on the earliest video game days, this walk down memory lane has over 200 unique vintage finds, perfect for collectors of all price ranges. While each item is a gem in its own right, here are my favorite items from this showcase auction.

Fester's Quest

He's creepy and he's kooky, and he can also light up lightbulbs through his mouth. Addams Families Uncle Fester is a great character, so much so that in 1989 he was the subject of his own video game. Festers Quest predates the iconic 1991 The Addams Family movie with Rau Julia and Anjelica Houston, and also came out over 10 years after the 1973 cartoon show. This game was not well received when released, but was ideal for existing fans of the series. Since then it has become a cult collectible.

This sealed 9.8 A+ WATA-graded copy is too cool. Michael Mendheim created the art for the box, showing a rendition of Jackie Coogan as Fester. The art really sells this game, and if you're a collector of cool box art don't overlook this game. The last time a 9.8 copy was sold was in March of 2021 for $3,500 -- as such, this copy has the potential to go for more.

Virtual Boy Console

Did you own a Virtual Boy? This 32-bit tabletop console was an eyesore, and cumbersome, but it showed the potential video games had. With a limited library, and even more limited lifespan, the Virtual Boy was a dud on arrival. Yet in recent years there has been a resurgence of interest in the console. The console did manage to sell over 700,000 units by the time it was discontinued. Perhaps the nostalgia glasses are too rosy, but there has been a lot of interest in this console. I have one on display in my home, but I'm not brave enough to see if it still works.

Complete in-box units routinely sell for over $300 on eBay. This VGA 80 NM has been opened, but it is unused. This could be a great opportunity for a collector to get this piece at a good price.

Star Fox Super Weekend Jacket

I am a complete sucker for promotional items, especially clothing. This Star Fox Super promotional jacket was given to winners in various Nintendo-sanctioned tournaments across the US. Star Fox is one of Nintendo's most popular games and was awarded the best shooter game in 1993 by Electronic Gaming Monthly.  A sequel was set to follow, but Nintendo opted to cancel its release and only focus on Star Fox 64.

This promotional jacket is truly one of a kind as it's still in its original shrinkwrap. These jackets are very hard to come by -- especially in this condition. Heritage notes that it is a men's medium, and is in brand-new condition. Finding a price point on something like this is hard, so this is the item everyone should keep their eyes on.
