Darkseid is trending in the news thanks to Zack Snyder, and that will inevitably impact the secondary market if only briefly.

No matter how many times the WB and DC executives say it’s dead and buried, the Snyder-Verse fans refuse to let go. To be fair, it worked before and helped bring the Justice League Snyder Cut to life, so why wouldn’t it happen twice? As of late, those vocal supporters have campaigned for Warner Bros. Discovery to sell the rights to Snyder’s DC films to Netflix, a notion that is laughable at best.

Just when it would seem that DC Studios is ready to stop answering questions about the Snyder-Verse, the director himself stokes the flames. On Wednesday morning, Snyder posted a cryptic video on Twitter, thus igniting the fandom once again.

What does it mean? No one seems to know, but that mystery should be enough to have buyers targeting those Darkseid keys.

SUPERMAN’S PAL JIMMY OLSEN #134

Like so many characters in the comic book pantheon, Darkseid was slowly teased into existence. It began with the introduction of Jack Kirby’s Fourth World in Jimmy Olsen #133 before Darkseid made his debut in the following issue.

Granted this is a cameo appearance, but that hasn’t stopped collectors and investors from putting this comic at the top of their wish lists. Personally, I think this issue is worth owning just for the weird Mad Max-style cover with Jimmy Olsen leading his gang in an attack on Superman.

FOREVER PEOPLE #1

I love the concept of the Fourth World, and I can’t wait to see what James Gunn does with the idea. There’s so much to explore there, but Forever People is so cliché 1970s that it is downright painful. This was clearly aimed at the younger crowd of the time with corny names like Beautiful Dreamer and Mark Moonrider.

However, the issue is worth owning for the first full appearance of Darkseid. If only he’d have wiped the Forever People from DC Comics, that would have been great.

NEW GODS #2

Collectors and speculators alike are always on the lookout for those first cover appearances. In many cases, those tend to be the key issues with the most upside even if it’s not the character’s actual first appearance. Here we have Darkseid's disembodied head on the front of New Gods #2, marking his second full and fourth overall appearance in DC Comics. Whenever he does return to screens big and small, it could propel this issue to the top of the charts.

DARKSEID COMING “FULL CIRCLE”

What Snyder has planned is up for debate. While Snyder-Verse fans are crossing their fingers for a new movie or HBO Max series announcement, most within the comic community are pointing toward the tweet being a Snyder Con tease. As much fun as that would be, that's not nearly as exciting as the idea that Gunn and Snyder are working together on some major Fourth World projects.

I realize it’s a one-in-a-million shot, but how cool would it be if Gunn hired Snyder to do a standalone Darkseid movie?
