There was plenty of buzz in the Comic Auction community this week, with a new comic winning the title of Most Expensive Comic to sell at auction, plenty of results from Hake's latest offering, and Goldin Auctions jumping into their very first comic auction. Here's all the latest in Comic Auction Updates!

NEW RECORD: The Most Expensive Comic Sold!

There's a new King in town, folks.  If you’re following our Instagram, you've seen us post about the 9.6 Amazing Fantasy #15 sold by Heritage Auction for a record-breaking $3.6 million dollars on Thursday.

Just WHY did this book command such a price? It's one of only four CGC graded 9.6s in existence and it is in near-mint condition with pristine white pages.  That rarity combined with the fact that it's the first appearance of one of the most iconic comic characters of all time is enough to answer any questions.

The previous record for a sale of Amazing Fantasy #15  was a 9.4 that sold for $795,000 in March 2020.  The previous record for a comic book auction sale was a 9.0  Action Comics #1 that sold for $3.2 million just in April. Given the short amount of time this book got to rule before Spidey swooped in, how long will he wear the crown? And what book do you think will be next?

ComicConnect's October Mega Monthly Auction

ComicConnect's latest monthly comic auction has officially launched, and it features some heavy hitters along with some more affordable options for collectors. With plenty of time to bid before this one closes, take your time to check out the full list of items. Featured pieces include:

A CGC 9.8 copy of New Mutants #98 (Newsstand) with white pages. This book is worth a look for more than one reason, but the one that will always top the list is simple. Deadpool. (And/or Wade Wilson if you're so inclined.)

Although the character debuted as a supervillain, his popularity quickly necessitated the transition into an antihero with a heart of gold as a way of keeping him in front of the eyes of readers.

This book has been on an upward climb lately and with constant movie rumors and MCU updates, it doesn't seem to be in danger of cooling off anytime soon.

Its three most recent sales in 9.8 have gone for $1,920 (8/26//21), $1,920 (8/16/21), and $2,640 (8/09/21), all on Heritage.  Read more in-depth sales data HERE.

[caption id="attachment_142686" align="alignleft" width="405"] Spider-Woman #1 Trends - GoCollect[/caption]

Also hitting the block is a CGC 9.8 copy of Spider-Woman #1 with white pages. This 1978 Spider-Woman Origin story features Editing and script by Marv Wolfman and pencils by Joe Sinnott and Carmine Infantino.

9.8s are currently on a downward trend, which means this could be the perfect time to swoop in and grab a copy for a (reasonably) affordable price.  Read more sales data on this book HERE.

The auction end-dates are as follows:

Session 1: (Mega Titles A-C) Ends: Oct 05, 2021
Session 2: (Mega Titles D-N) Ends: Oct 06, 2021

Goldin Auctions Dips a Toe into the Comic Auction Pool - Now Open

Goldin Auctions has expanded into comics. Their first foray into the field has a selection of highly-graded major keys to offer bidders. In addition to comics, they’re offering a variety of graded video games as well as gaming cards and a few collectible odds and ends. Here’s a look at a couple of their featured items up for bids.

Batman #1 – CGC 8.0

This particular copy comes from the collection of Lamont Larson, the noted collector of pre-Golden Age and Golden Age comics, and is signed by the collector with a pencil on the left side of the cover.

The Larson Pedigree is one of the earliest pedigrees in the hobby, consisting of over 1,000 books published from 1936 to 1940. Larson signed copies are highly sought-after by collectors, only increasing this copy’s value.Screenshot-2021-09-08-154328-300x208 Goldin Auctions: Key Comics, Video Games, & Gaming Cards

This book does have some “staining on the right side and slight wear on the edges and corners.” There are only 16 CGC graded 8.0s listed in their census. In addition, only 18 copies exist with a higher grade.

The most recent sales of this grade have displayed vastly varying results, with the last three sales going for $1,050,000 (ComicConnect 4/16/21), $498,000 (ComicConnect 9/9/2019), and $390,000 (ComicConnect 12/13/2016).

The current high bid sits at $860,000.00 after 11 bids.

Avengers #1  – CGC 9.6Screenshot-2021-09-08-142234-187x300 Goldin Auctions: Key Comics, Video Games, & Gaming Cards

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s answer to DC’s Justice League needs no explanation as to why it’s important to the collecting world.

This copy has off-white to white pages and is graded as highly as you’ll find, with none graded higher. In fact, this is one of only 5 CGC graded 9.6s out there.

The last time this book in this grade hit the auction block, it brought in $194,000 through ComicConnect in 2018. The last time we saw it appear at Heritage, it realized $215,100.00 (2015.) This entry’s current high bid is sitting at $170,000 after 8 bids.

Goldin’s Comics, Video Game & TCG Elite Auction closes on Sept 18 at 10pm. Check out all the entries HERE.

Hake's Comics/Pokemon Auction September 2021 Auction Closes

Hake's latest auction featured over 1000 graded comics featuring plenty of different ages and heroes. Here are the top three highest earners.

The comic that topped the auction charts was a CGC graded 4.5 Fantastic Four #1, which sold for $29,500.00 after 29 bids. This item landed right in the middle of its value code of $20,000 to $35,000.

An identically-graded copy of this book sold $24,000 on Heritage just over two months ago. 4.5s have been trending positively by 8.4 % over the last year.

The second-highest earner was a CGC 9.8 NM/MINT copy of  X-MEN #101. This origin and first appearance of Phoenix brought in $7,965.00. This price has added to the book's upward trend lately, with its last three sales hitting $6,600 (8/16/21, Heritage), $6,101 (eBay, 5/23/21), and $5,449 (eBay, 4/20/21).

Rounding off our top three is a CGC 8.0 VF Giant-Size X-Men #1.

This was a special issue of the X-Men comic book series.   Though not a regular issue, it contained the first new X-Men story in five years, titled Second Genesis. The issue serves as a link between the original X-Men and a new team.

The two most recent sales of this book, both within the last two months, have sold for $6,000 each (eBay, Heritage). The final realized price for this book in this auction was $7,268.80 after 17 bids.

Heritage's Sunday & Monday Comic Books Select Auction #122137 Results:

Another week, another round of Heritage comic auction results. Here are the top three highest earners from the latest Heritage weekly auction

First place went to a book that's seen more of its fare share of publicity this week. In this case, it is a CGC GD/VG 3.0 Amazing Fantasy #15 Signed by Stan Lee with off-white to white pages, which sold for $45,600.

"David Castronuovo was just a kid in 1964 who along with two pals were launching a fanzine. One of his partners was the son of Marvel artist Vince Colletta, and when he learned that Mr. Marvel himself, Stan Lee, was coming to his house for dinner, he made sure his fanzine associates knew of the occasion. The three made plans for an interview with The Man. David had the presence to get Stan to sign four comic books." This was one of those four, and it brought in a pretty penny for its winner.

Second place landed on a Captain America Comics #24  (Timely, 1943) CGC FN 6.0 with cream to off-white pages. This book is designated as part of the revered Promise Collection Pedigree, which made headlines a few months ago after being brought to market in remarkably well-preserved shape.

This copy, the only Blue-label 6.0 registered in the CGC census, sold for $15,600. There are only 10 books graded higher.

Third place in this event was claimed by a CGC NM- 9.2 Marvel Spotlight #5 Ghost Rider (Marvel, 1972) with white pages. This origin and first appearance of Ghost Rider realized $15,600, exceeding the current FMV of this grade ($14,000._
