Giant-Size X-Men’s Giant Value

Giant-Size-X-Men-195x300 Giant-Size X-Men's Giant ValueFor any X-Men fan (unless you’re one of the two people who prefer the Stan Lee run), GSX #1 is not just a holy grail – it’s THE holy grail of X-books, and it’s on the move in 2018. Here’s your rundown of every grade’s booming FMVs.

Let’s face it – 2017 was not a good year for the X-Men. Wolverine was still dead, the Inhumans were taking the team’s place in the comics, and on the heels of a terrible movie was the news of yet another terrible X-movie on the horizon. It wasn’t a good time to be a fan of mutants in spandex, that was for sure.

As I’ve written before, a bad movie can absolutely destroy a comic’s value. When it comes to lackluster movies affecting comic prices, no key is safe – not even a holy grail. Such has been the case with Giant-Size X-Men #1.

Last year, while most of the higher grades were safe, any of the lower grades were fair game for the falling values, and it’s in the lower grades where you truly see how hot a comic really is. Starting with the very-fine plus, seven different grades dropped in fair market value from 2016 to 2017, and four of those were between a 1.8 and a 3.5.

This year, things have come full circle. From a 9.8 down to a 1.8, every single grade has experienced a significant rise in FMV in the past 12 months.

The most popular seller has been the 8.5, which has sold 59 times in the past year. However, the most impressive figures belong to that elusive 9.8 as it has jumped from a $5,800 average in 2016 to $6,860 last year. Those numbers are nothing compared to the past 90 days when it has averaged $10,428.

For those of us without five-figures to invest, there are the low grades, which are doing quite well in these past three months. The lowly 1.8 has averaged nearly $400 since this time last year, while the 3.0 has cracked $450 and will likely approach the $500 mark in the coming months. In fact, the 3.5 has surpassed that over the last 90 days with its FMV of $506.

When you invest in GSX #1, keep in mind that there’s no ceiling to the values in sight. The X-Men entering the MCU is inevitable, and the moment Kevin Feige gives us even a hint of a time frame for that moment, today’s values will seem like a Black Friday deal.

Here’s your detailed breakdown for all the grades sold since November 2017.
