Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle Weekly Rankings For 01/07/09

Here are this week’s comics ranked prior to reading them:

3. Transformers Maximum Dinobots #2

2. Cable #10

1. Walking Dead #57

I also picked up a copy of Incognito from last week. I wouldn’t put it at number one though because this week’s number one was amazing.

Here are the rankings after the first read through with a mini-review:

3. Cable #10

Swierczynski & Olivetti

Bishop breaks out of the X-Men’s grasp and escapes to the future to find Cable. Cable, heads towards Westchester….some number of decades in the future. He does have an interesting confrontation with the “President” which reveals how the world was destroyed except for North America. Cable figures out what Bishop is up to and is faced with a bit of a tragedy at the end of this issue. Also, I think the baby has a name!

2. Transforms Maximum Dinobots #2

Furman & Roche

A great issue with plenty of action using a tight cast. Grimlock is confronted by his old teammates, who are given their memories back. This fuels their rage towards what Grimlock did way back in the Shockwave fight. Side plots have Hot Rod beaten badly at the hands of the Scorponok and the Headmasters. Add in that a couple of other players appear at the end that will come into the mix in future issues and you have a very solid issue with some interesting plots for the future.

1. Walking Dead #57

Kirkman, Adlard, Rathburn

This very well may be the most stunning issue of this entire series. Rick, Carl and Abraham decide to travel some 250 miles to check out the police station Rick left behind in his previous life. The plot is a stretch any way you look at it. But it’s what happens on the way that elevates this book to a status we haven’t seen before, and in this title that’s saying something. ***SPOILER***

They find some strangers who hold them captive and attempt to rape Carl, a little boy, but Rick wont stand for it and becomes almost as barbaric as a zombie. It’s an amazing issue that will make your heart race as the amazing conclusion unfolds. Based on the cover for next month I’d say something worse is about to happen.
