The Strange Talent Of Luther Strode #5The Strange Talent Of Luther Strode #5 of 6

Jordan, Moore & Sobreiro

Luther Strode races towards its conclusion with what appears to be the most violent and bloody issue to date. For the most part, this story still leaves a lot that is yet to be revealed but the individual issue is straight forward enough that the unanswered questions really don't matter or factor into the story. Once again the art nearly steals the show, particularly when the gore comes into play. I am enjoying this series as I find this to be a refreshing look at violence in a way that I don't believe I have seen since something like Kick-Ass. If you aren't too squeamish then I recommend picking this issue up.

This issue is basically one where Luther must pick between saving his mom or his girlfriend. After he finds his mom (and his buddy) safely tucked away in his apartment he races off to try to rescue his girlfriend (or would-be girlfriend). What Luther finds is that she is getting beaten on (and holding her own) and this enrages Luther.

Not only is the interrogation visually brutal and downright nasty, but Luther's entrance is that and so much more. Jordan doesn't stop the violence there though, as Luther's mom and buddy get a visit from a powerful individual that leaves a bloody soupy mess in his apartment.

The book is more than just gore. The story has very interesting characters and it provides enough a mystery that you find yourself guessing as to the character's intent. This particular issue flew by as I found myself on the edge of my seat waiting to find out which character was going to die (if any). I think the combination of story, characters and shock value makes this book stand out in the comic book landscape.

Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle ReviewsTradd Moore continues to impress on art duties. Not only is the book pushing the envelope in the violence department but the book is also finding very creative ways to display severed body parts. I can't stress how much I enjoyed the artwork in this book. I think the art pushes this story through boundaries that many artists might not be able to reach through to.

Luther Strode promises a bloody showdown to complete the mini-series. It seems impossible to see how it can top this issue but Jordan promises it will do just that. I think if you like a violent book with some great character work then this is something to pick up. When the series is over I think a lot of people will be hunting down the back issues (or salivating for the trade release) because it is that good.
