Disney Kingdoms Seekers Of The Weird #1Disney Kingdoms Seekers of the Weird #1 of 5
Marvel Comics
Seifert, Moline & Beaulieu

The Marvel mini-series that is inspired by the Disney park attraction that never was: The Museum of the Weird. The comic book is mostly setup as the lead characters are introduced and plunged into the odd world that is the Museum of the Weird. The comic book appears to follow standard storytelling tactics that involve kids that are lost and discover something amazing a la Goonies and many others. The first issue is a good one and is enough to stick out the mini-series to see where this all goes.

The comic book spends a couple of pages introducing siblings: Melody and Maxwell. The characters are established as close but virtual opposites as one is the brain and the other the athlete. The pair have parents that act very strangely and not just because they own and operate a store called, "Keep It Weird" which appears to also be the place that they all live as well.

Things turn ugly quickly as all kinds of demons get unleashed and swallow up the parents. The kids are scared but are rescued by an unexpected visitor and brought to a place called The Museum of the Weird. The series appears to hinge on something called the Coffin Clock but just as things start to heat up the comic ends.

The book is a good read. It has a fast pace and has plenty of creative demons and monsters to give the book a nice visual look. The comic feels a little generic because of commonly used tactics, like finding some sort of magic object. The book is equal parts mystery and light-horror story.

Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle ReviewsThe artwork is a good. The comic has some fast paced sequences where the artwork isn't entirely clear on panel transitions but the details are at least crisp. The comic has a nice color pallet to help make the comic come alive visually. The high point of the book in terms of the art is various creatures that are presented. This is a nice comic to look at.

Seekers of the Weird is probably a niche book. Fans of Disney and of the attractions might be curious enough to check this out but generally speaking those readers that like adventure and mystery but nothing over the top might find something to like here. I plan to check out the series to see where this is headed. This is a good start.
