D4ve is ridiculous and I loved every page of it. The premise is that robots have taken over Earth. They've stopped all invaders from other worlds by killing off entire species. They are now the only "living" thing left in the galaxy. What happens next? That is where this comic book picks up and it is a great start to the mini-series. I definitely urge you to pick this up if you like quirky, but funny science-fiction stories that have a taste of reality in them.

D4ve is bored. He doesn't like his job. He is disinterested in his home life. Whether it's his wife or the newly delivered son he has checked out emotional connecting with his family. D4ve daydreams of a time when he was a fighter and when his life had purpose. Basically D4ve misses war and being a hero. The comic book is equal parts origin story and setting the current tone for the lead character. D4ve has some depression going on in this book as well despite his attempts to cheer himself up. Obviously the problem D4ve will ultimately face is also introduced.

The bright spots of the book are how D4ve's personality is depicted. He's a robot but behaves in very human-like ways. The laughs in the book are more when the parallels between humans and robots are acted out as opposed to some one-liner that you might find in a Deadpool comic book. D4ve is an interesting character that could be any middle-aged man going through a mid-life crisis. The tone is perfect.

Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle ReviewsThe artwork is great. The coloring really brings this book to life and makes the world seem very human-like until you look at the heads and are reminded that they are robots. The book has an all-ages look to it even though the material is definitely not all-ages. The visuals in the book do hit a snag or two when the scenes apparently switch over to flashbacks. Or are they daydreams? I'm still not entirely sure but they weren't enough to make me out of the general reading experience.

Yes, you've seen these types of stories before. Typically they are of the Terminator sort where the world is either inhabited or getting taken over by the evil robots. These robots may have slaughtered the human race but they are finding themselves struggling to find a purpose now. It's a clever twist on the idea and it is executed in an intriguing way. I definitely recommend checking this comic out.
