If you are a fan of 1980s nostalgia, then you should add the Marvel Saga and its epic wraparound covers to your collection.

As a comic fan of the 1980s, there is so much to love about The Marvel Saga, but in terms of investing, there is not much of a story to tell. For the most part, none of these issues are particularly valuable, and there is nothing that leads me to believe any will suddenly inflate in price. No, these are worth adding simply for the joy of collecting.

A HISTORY OF THE HISTORY

Personally, I adore the art style from this "official history of the Marvel Universe." The covers feature some of the biggest characters and milestones from the company's first 25 years. Being comics, that history has been rewritten and ret-conned several times over, most recently with Mark Waid's History of the Marvel Universe. Still, this is a great series with all your favorite characters.

With that in mind, here are four issues that caught my attention. The best part of The Marvel Saga is that you can collect all 25 issues without spending much. Truth be known, you do not have to seek out graded 9.8s for them, either, which will save you even more money.

The Marvel SagaTHE MARVEL SAGA #1

Peter Sanderson did the research and writing for these issues, which put the history of Marvel in chronological order. At the time, this was a novel concept that attempted to tell the entire Marvel story from beginning to end, which would make it easier for newer readers to understand and become longtime patrons.

If you are looking for a graded copy, the first issue of this series generally sells for close to $20 for a 9.8. However, the Canadian edition brought $69 last January.

The Marvel SagaTHE MARVEL SAGA #4

I am a fan of this issue because it gives a full history of Professor X and his endless feud with Magneto. As an X-Men fan, this is a great addition to any collection. The demand for this comic is so little that there is not enough data for it to have a fair market value.

The Marvel SagaTHE MARVEL SAGA #16

This issue carries a bit more value than most of its counterparts. I suspect it is due to the cover with the original Stan Lee/Jack Kirby X-Men lineup battling the Silver Age Avengers. Sooner or later, we will see an X-Men versus Avengers on the big screen, and that could impact values for this issue slightly. The last time a graded 9.8 sold online, it went for $50 in 2018.

The Marvel SagaTHE MARVEL SAGA #22

Of all the issues of The Marvel Saga, this is the most collectible issue. It coincides with Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21 and the wedding of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson.

This comic does not feature any significant firsts, but it is a piece of history for the Spider-Man collector. The Marvel Saga #22 gives an official recap of Peter and MJ's relationship leading up to them exchanging vows.

Although it has not earned eye-popping numbers, a graded 6.5 sold for $65 in July. A 9.8 has not sold online since 2018, but it did sell for $50 at that time.
