Fantasy Investing - Sweet ToothIt's time again for Fantasy Comic Investing, and I challenge you to put your picks against mine.

The third round of Fantasy Investing was good to me. (Anyone else thinking of an old Saturday Night Live skit? Fantasy Investing has been very, very good to me.) My mentality with those picks was to go with the short term profits, and it worked.

The biggest gainer was Sweet Tooth #1. Propelled by the news of an impending Netflix live-action series, the 9.8 doubled its fair market value in a month's time. After my initial investment of $150, it is now earning $300.

Fantasy Investing - HulkFor the first three rounds, Wolverine's first appearance in cameo has been my saving grace. Last month, I decided to upgrade to an 8.5, and that was a good decision. From May to June, its FMV has increased to $925, giving me a $75 profit.

The only loss I suffered was Secret War #2, which dropped $10 from May's FMV. Luckily, my 9.2 Amazing Spider-Man #300 got a $25 bump to absorb the impact. Here's the full list from round three.

Fantasy Investing - VenomTHE NEW FANTASY INVESTING PICKS

That gives me a profit of $240 entering round four. As the rules dictate, at least one comic has to go. Those first appearances of Wolverine, Venom, and Carnage are locks, and Sweet Tooth is a definite moneymaker, so those are staying. This month, I will cut my losses from the Secret Warriors and dump Secret War #2 and Mighty Avengers #13.

It pains me to do it, but I also will let go of Thor #337. The market has plateaued for Beta Ray Bill for the time being. Sooner or later, we will get some Beta Ray MCU news, and it's going to skyrocket. For the meantime, it's not making a profit at its current FMVs, so out with the old.

Tossing those comics overboard gives me $302 to invest, and I know exactly where I'm putting that money: Knull. He's an extremely hot character at the moment, and his first cover appearance is bringing big profits. That is why I will spend $300 for a 9.8 Venom #3 third print.

THE CHALLENGE

Want to play Fantasy Investing? All you need to do is add your picks to the comments section. I'll spotlight a handful of entries in the next installment and give you a shout out. Think you can outperform my picks?

THE RULES

With a starting budget of $2,000, how much profit can you make from comic investments? Here are the rules (so far):

  1. This is only for graded comics and their averages based on current values calculated by GoCollect.
  2. You can only buy one grade per comic, so no buying $2k’s worth of one hot book.
  3. Once you post your pics, they are locked for a month.
  4. You can have as many or as few comics as you like, as long as you don’t exceed the $2k budget.
  5. Only comics with a current GoCollect Fair Market Value can be used.
  6. Universal grades only.
  7. At the end of each month, the winner is determined by the biggest profit margin over the initial $2k budget.
  8. You have to sell at least one of your comics each month.
  9. Spend it or lose it. If you still have money left in your budget, it doesn't carry over to the next round.
