It’s time for another round of Fantasy Investing. Who turned the biggest profits after the first inning?

MY ROUND 2 FANTASY INVESTING STRATEGY: CARNAGE AND WOLVERINE

Parting with a 9.0 Hulk #180 is not an easy decision, even with imaginary money.

Win or lose, the backbone of my investment strategy has been Incredible Hulk #180. Month after month, this comic never lost money throughout the entire game in its first iteration. Even with Fantasy Comic Investing now being weekly, Hulk #180 is proving to be equally reliable. The more Wolverine rumors that surface, the better this issue does, and that is not likely to slow down anytime soon.

The only thing that may be hotter than Wolverine at the moment is Carnage after Sony dropped that Venom 2 trailer yesterday. No question, the sales will get an instant spike in fair market value, especially for the 9.8. That’s why I traded in Hulk #180 for the $2k FMV to fund a 9.8 Amazing Spider-Man #361. Live by the Carnage, die by the Carnage, but I had enough left over to still keep a 4.5 #180.

That first cameo appearance of Wolverine was the only comic in my stable that turned a profit this week. Even the 6.5 Captain America #117 took a hit and fell by $100, but I have plenty of faith in Falcon’s debut.

With so much attention being paid to Sam Wilson at the moment, all the copies of Cap #117 will continue to climb, so I might as well ride that wave of excitement. That’s why I am going to keep that 6.5 for at least one more week.

That leaves me with a tough choice. Which one do I sell: the 7.5 X-Men #129, which lost $30 in a week, or the 7.0 Strange Tales #159 that stayed at $170? Since this is a weekly game, I have to think about immediate turnaround, and X-Men #129 is very hot at the moment. Granted ST #159 is hot as well, but there hasn’t been a 7.0 bought online since November.

On the other hand, those upper grades of X-Men #129 are moving quickly, so there’s a better chance of seeing faster profits. That’s why I decided to sell both the ST #159 and the X-Men #129 and invest in a higher grade X-Men #129.

  1. This is only for graded comics and their averages based on current values calculated by GoCollect.
  2. You can only buy one grade per comic, so no buying $3k’s worth of one hot book.
  3. Once you post your picks, they are locked until the following Sunday at midnight.
  4. You can have as many or as few comics as you like, as long as you don’t exceed the $3k budget.
  5. Only comics with a current GoCollect Fair Market Value can be used.
  6. Universal grades only; no CGC Signature Series or qualified grades.
  7. At the end of each week, the winner is determined by the biggest profit margin over the initial $3k budget. That will also determine your next week’s budget.
  8. Make moves. You have to sell at least one of your comics each week.
  9. Spend it or lose it. If you still have money left in your Fantasy Investing budget, it doesn’t carry over to the next round.
