The Totally Awesome Hulk is still a force to be feared. Media hype from unrelated big box office movies sucked up all the oxygen in May, yet this comic book was not deterred. Totally Awesome Hulk #22 is the first appearance of Weapon H, perhaps part of the reason for Hulk-sized speculation. Hulk did "Smash" the competition by rapidly increasing the pace of purchases during the month of May. Obviously, Weapon H is holding his own. But can it continue? The stats say it can, it will, and it should continue. Understand this book is both a first appearance and an amalgam superhero, Weapon H. This Frankenstein recreation seems to be the way Marvel is heading with many of their top characters nowadays, example Cosmic Ghost Rider. Does this hurt or help a character? How powerful is the Weapon H speculation for Totally Awesome Hulk #22 going into June?

Totally Awesome Hulk #22

This book has been popular even its second printing has value. Totally Awesome Hulk #22 was created by Robert Gill (artist), Greg Pak (writer) and was in stores August 16, 2017. Over nine months there has been a total of 100 graded sales. In last month the pace has picked up, and 48  have been in May (GoCollect). If we do the math, that gives us a total of 52 issues over eight months. That is 6.5 copies of Totally Awesome Hulk #22 sold every month. Then suddenly, 48 copies of TAH #22 sold in one month, hallelujah!

This kind of explosion in interest may have to do with Avengers: Infinity War or the fact this is a key issue now. Perhaps by giving Weapon H his titled series in late March, it has influenced the interest in his first full appearance in Totally Awesome Hulk #22. This comic book in (9.6) has had a price decline of about -19.5% as of 6/11/18, but that is hardly conclusive. A mint copy (9.8) has FMV (Fair Market Value) of $170, still a fantastic return for anyone who purchased it raw. This ferocious character is destined to be popular if we use Cosmic Ghost Rider and Red Goblin as examples. The fusing of different character powers to push the power envelope and spark some creativity in Marvel is all the rage. Hold onto the Totally Awesome Hulk #22 for a super leap toward the amalgam frontier while it is still cheap.

Weapon H #1

Along with the creation of a new character in Totally Awesome Hulk #22, there is inevitably a newly titled series to go with it. The Weapon H series debuted its first self-titled issue in March 2018, as Weapon H #1. The team of Greg Pak (writer) and Cory Smith (artist) created Weapon H #1. During May, the standard first print of this issue with cover artist Leinil Francis Yu, it has produced marginal returns.

According to one of my local comic retailers, "there is not enough story detail and substance behind this character to have Weapon H #1 be interesting, not a great story to follow." Is this correct? Does the brick and mortar owner have it right? It might be that his simple take is indeed correct. Weapon H is not a big speculative powerhouse like one might think. It is more like a Mr. Fixit Hulk from the 1980's. It is weaker, smaller, and does not get as much interest.

Currently, Weapon H has an FMV of $34 in (9.6), but with only nine sales of this comic over the last three months there is no hurry, to purchase it. For instance, mint (9.8) copies have ranged between $30-$50, and the previous sale was $29 in early June. The proof is in the pudding. This amalgam monstrosity has a negative return of -42.7% with only nine sales since March (GoCollect). I believe this is destined for the discount bins. Don't let Weapon H and his adamantium claws tear into your annual returns.  To quote Mr. Fixit paraphrasing The Godfather, "This is nothing personal, it's just business."
