StargateMedia Release -- LOS ANGELES, CA July 20, 2009 - Dynamite Entertainment, comic book publisher, announced a new agreement with Metro-Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) for a comics and series of graphic novels based on the long-running Stargate™ television franchise.

Based on the hit 1994 feature from MGM Pictures, the Emmy® nominated Stargate SG-1™ premiered in 1997 and spawned Stargate Atlantis™ in 2004. Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, are currently on air around the world and are watched by over millions each week. Stargate Universe™, the latest series for the franchise debuts stateside on October 2nd.

"Stargate is truly a crown jewel when it comes to episodic science fiction television," stated Dynamite President Nick Barrucci. "Just in time for the Stargate Universe series debuting in October, Dynamite will create an adventure series that retailers and fans alike will love. We have three separate launches planned, each designed to focus on the characters and attention coming the way of both the new show and Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis!"

Helping bring the world of Stargate to life is a team of top creative talent including: John Watson, whose work has graced Marvel Comics covers as one of the finest painters in the industry. John will be doing his first sequential work EVER in Stargate Universe. Dynamite is also bringing in famed Star Wars painter Dave Dorman as the main cover artist, as well as writers Chuck Dixon (G.I. Joe) with a prequel to Stargate Universe, Doug Murray (Jungle Girl and 'Nam) with the continuing stories from Stargate Atlantis beginning with Season Six and Brandon Jerwa (Battlestar Galactica) on Stargate SG1 beginning with Season #11. Dynamite will be launching a Stargate #0 bringing three different stories in one event comic for $1.00, to help introduce fans to the Stargate "universe".

"The great opportunity presented by the comics medium is not simply the chance to finding new fans, but the ability to tell original stories that enhance the show experience," observed SGU co-creator Robert Cooper.

Edgier and younger in tone, SGU will take the franchise in a dynamic new direction, appealing to longtime Stargate fans and first-time viewers alike. SGU follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves as they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth. Faced with meeting the most basic needs of food, water and air, the group must unlock the secrets of the ship's Stargate to survive. The danger, adventure and hope they find on board the Destiny will reveal the heroes and villains among them.

Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, will serve as executive producers and writers on the new series.

Stargate Universe will debut as a two-hour movie event on Syfy and will be distributed by MGM Worldwide Television Distribution.
