Stop me if you’ve heard this one. A ninja turtle, a she-devil with a sword, and a hero for hire walk into a bar. They all start drinking because they’re the big losers in this week’s Hottest Comics rankings.

Fear not, speculators, for these are based on sales volume, not fair market value. Still, it does raise an eyebrow when some well-known comic keys fall into the basement of the comic index. Let’s dive into the data and see what is happening.

907. TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #1 THIRD PRINT (-846)

Speaking of drinking, I guess it’s time to abandon all hope and dump those TMNT #1s, right? Not hardly.

This is the most enduring of franchises with a multi-generational fan base that keeps growing. The Ninja Turtles grow with the times, and it looks like they will be around until the end of time. When they first premiered for little-known publisher Mirage, the print runs for those TMNT #1s were next to nothing by today’s standards. That has resulted in every print being worth thousands. That price tag is likely to blame for the third print of TMNT #1 dropping like a cinder block in the ocean. No worries; it won’t lose any value, which is the bigger picture.

750. RED SONJA #1 (-706)

It was maybe a month ago that Red Sonja’s key issues were making a move. With the prospect of her own live-action movie as well as a likely part in the upcoming Netflix Conan reboot, things were looking good for Sonja. In the blink of an eye, buyers shied away from the debut issue of her first self-titled comic, Red Sonja #1. This likely comes from there being nothing new on the live-action front when it comes to the "She-Devil with a Sword." I imagine that as the new Conan show gets closer to a premiere, her keys will get the rub.

644. HERO FOR HIRE #1 (-629)

Just a week after Luke Cage’s first appearance in Hero for Hire #1 made ground in the Hottest Comics ranks, it took a nosedive into obscurity. What gives? I suspect the drop is due to the state of limbo for all the former Marvel Netflix properties. While Kevin Feige has said that all the characters from the Netflix Defenders-verse are “on the board,” no one knows exactly what that means. That leaves characters like Daredevil, Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones floating around in the void of used ideas that Marvel Studios may or may not recycle.

765. X-MEN #107 (-239)

This is an issue speculators should not sleep on. Sure, it may have not been the best seller in the comic realm, and it fell by more than 200 spots to fall outside the top 750, but this issue has so much speculation potential. With WandaVision making the X-Men the talk of the town, all of the X-titles have gotten much more popular. At least for this week, X-Men #107 did not go along for the ride, but that is okay because it will rebound. Now that the X-Men are being established in what has become a cosmic-oriented MCU, that leaves plenty of room for the Starjammers to perfectly fit into the mix. Here you get their first appearance, which is well worth an

investment.

1001. THE PUNISHER #10 (-286)

Speaking of those Netflix Marvel properties, here we have a classic Punisher/Daredevil cover from X-Men alum Whilce Portacio. There is nothing significant about The Punisher #10 other than it being another chapter in the Punisher/DD rivalry, and that is why it found its way to the bottom of the list and is the last entry in this week’s Hottest Comics.
