Deadpool 3 has a casting announcement, and the word on the internet is this will be the film’s main antagonist. Who could be the villain? Let’s speculate.

According to Deadline, The Crown’s Emma Corrin has officially been added to the cast to give Deadpool and Wolverine all the hell they can handle. The actor, who identifies as nonbinary, rose to fame as Princess Diana on the hit Netflix series.

There’s so much we don’t know about Deadpool 3, which just makes any news all the more tantalizing. The only plot details that have been released so far is that it will feature Wade Wilson traversing the Multiverse where he will pair with a Wolverine variant from the Fox X-Men franchise. In the initial announcement, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman had said that the events of Logan will not be retconned, which means the original onscreen Wolvie is still dead.

What will happen when the movie finally reaches theaters? That’s the big question. Adding Corrin as the main villain raises plenty of questions as to what character they could be playing.

DANGER

First appearance: Astonishing X-Men #9

Think of Danger as the X-Men’s version of Ultron in that she is an AI program come to life. She’s not quite on Ultron’s level as far as supervillainy, but Danger poses a significant threat to the X-Men. After all, she was originally the famed Danger Room that trained the team, meaning she knows all their weaknesses.

How did the Danger Room become sentient? After taking off to space with the Starjammers, Professor X brought back some Shi’ar technology. He used it to upgrade the Danger Room, which gave it sentience. Later, the X-Mansion was destroyed for the hundredth time, and when it was rebuilt, Danger crafted herself a body and turned evil because that’s just what AI does in the world of sci-fi and superheroes (minus Vision).

Danger may seem like a D-list villain and an unlikely choice for such a major movie, but Reynolds may have already spoiled the surprise…or he’s trolling us, which would be on brand for him. In the Deadpool 3 announcement, there’s a shot of him on the toilet, reading a comic. As comic fans tend to do, they analyzed the issue and noticed it contained Danger. Pair that with Corrin’s casting, and this seems like the odds-on favorite.

All of this should be enough to give Astonishing X-Men #9 a quick boost on the secondary market. As of February 14, you could still get raw copies for no more than $10, though that should soon change. If you want a graded 9.8, the last sale was for $103 just two days ago.

DANGER, WADE WILSON!

I guess you could say Deadpool 3 appears to be headed for...dangerous territory. It’s shaping up to be an intriguing addition to the MCU, especially with the additions of Corrin and Owen Wilson, reprising his role as Mobius from Loki. Kevin Feige had said that it would remain R-rated, but I wonder how much Disney will allow Reynolds and company to get away with. Even if the language and gore are watered down, seeing Deadpool troll the MCU sounds like pure entertainment.
