DC Comics's Future State event is currently taking place in 2021 and will continue to be introducing more mini-series as we move forward through the year. There have been many reveals during this event that could provide a good long term in the year to come.

From a fan's standpoint, it is always nice for DC Comics to bring out new storylines and introduce new characters in the process. Other than the event being a good read overall, do we think that there are good speculation books going forward? If so, which issues and characters are the best to keep for the long run? Are there any issues that are a  short-term gain as well? Or are all the books in these events just "quick-flips" for people who experience the "Fear Of Missing Out" (FOMO)?

TIM FOX

I think one of the biggest headliners for the Future State, even by DC Comics, is the introduction of a new Batman. The character to hold that title would be Tim Fox. Tim makes his first full appearance as Batman in Future State: The Next Batman #1. The issue also includes the first appearances of two teams that play a part in the mini-series. The two teams are The Magistrate and the Arkham Knights.  If you feel all-in on the character of Tim Fox, there is the consideration of grabbing his overall first appearance. The issue he makes his first appearance is in Batman #313.  Currently, raw sales for this issue are just barely averaging over cover price. I start to wonder if the reason is the high cover price of $7.99 I guess, time will tell if this book becomes a key down the road.

SWAMP THING

Swamp Thing has always been a classic, but yet interesting character for DC Comics. In the Future State event, there is confirmation of a new Swamp Thing. Future State Swamp Thing #1 introduces a new character, Swamp Thing Supreme. This issue went under the radar as it contained multiple first appearances of new characters. This issue includes the first appearance Woodrue Wilson, Indigo, Vruk, Call, and Heather. In addition, the issue has cameo appearances from the Obsidian Sun and Bougan. Collectors and fans like issues that bring out many new characters and the market confirm this. Raw copies are currently selling around the $8-10 range, which is doubled the $3.99 cover price. Speculators appear to believe this issue has long-term potential due to the multiple first appearances from this mini-series.

TEEN TITANS

This next issue came under the radar when previews came out and has exploded due to popularity and demand. Future Teen Titans #1 depicts the first appearance of Red X in the mainstream DC universe. This issue also gets so much attention from Red X that it also contains multiple first appearances as well. The issue brings out the first appearance of the Future State Teen Titans, which includes Nightwing, Raven, Crush, Jakeem Thunder, Bunker, Starfire, Red X, and Arrow. In addition, we confirm the first appearance of Bratgirl, Totally Tubular, Gorilla Greg, and Johnny Chupacabra. Lastly, we get the first appearance from Cybeast, which is a fusion of Beast Boy and Cyborg. The demand has put the value of this issue much higher than the cover price. Raw prices for this issue are averaging about $15 as the fans and collectors feel this is a book to keep. Or do we think this issue is a "quick-flip" to make a profit? Let me know your thoughts on this issue!
