DC's first-ever "Fandome" - a 24 hour online convention was packed with panels for numerous projects. In this article I will cover the highlights.
Wonder Woman 1984
A new trailer was shown at the FanDome which gave a good look at one of the villains in the movie, Cheetah. It looks like her transformation into the full animal form will be gradual, but by the movie's end, she will be full-fledged Cheetah.
Black Adam
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson hosted and revealed some details about where they are going with the project. They have yet to start filming, but there was a nice animated presentation put together by Jim Lee to show some of the concepts. The Rock noted how Black Adam will be unlike other superheroes in that he will not exercise restraint in his style of administering justice. His origin is going to start off as a slave, and that is going to inform how he deals with problems when he gains his powers.
The Justice Society of America will be introduced in Black Adam. The Rock gave a roster of characters that will make up the initial team. These include Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone.
Justice League: The Snyder Cut
Zack Snyder showed an extended montage of footage which included some new images. Among the more notable were a better look at Darkseid, and Superman in his black suit during a fight scene. Unfortunately, there was no sign of Green Lantern Corps or Martian Manhunter, but he is undoubtedly not giving everything away. Case in point, the film is so long it is actually going to be shown in four-one hour episodes on HBO Max. Snyder hinted that the time-traveling abilities of the Flash will be explored.
Panels with smaller tidbits
The Flash movie will center around time travel, probably picking up where the Snyder Cut of Justice League leaves off. Also, a concept drawing was shown of the new costume, designed by Bruce Wayne. This image shows Michael Keaton's Batman, who has been confirmed to return for a role in the Flash movie.
The SHAZAM sequel will be called "Fury of The Gods".
Suicide Squad director James Gunn shared that the special effects supervisor Daniel Sudick, who worked on many of the Marvel movies, said "there are more effects in this film than all of those movies combined."
The Batman
This panel was saved for last and absolutely took the cake. Director Matt Reeves spoke at length about his vision for The Batman. It is going to depict Batman in his second year of crime-fighting. He is still new, will make mistakes, and will be learning what it means to be Batman. His costume and Batmobile are depicted as things Bruce Wayne tinkered around to put together, as such they will be continually modified as the film progresses. Behind the scenes, his costume and the Batmobile took designers over a year to finalize.
Reeves drew inspiration from 70's crime/noir films such as Chinatown and Taxi Driver. He describes this film from Batman's perspective as being an experiment in criminology. This experiment is going to lead to him being surprised to see just how far corruption has spread in Gotham over generations. Batman will be exercising his detective abilities fighting the Riddler. Carmine Falcone, The Penguin, and Selena Kyle are also featured. Reeves kept stressing that they wanted to show these characters in a way that is faithful but has never been done before on film.
The best part of the FanDome for me was The Batman trailer that they showed. It was quite a lot for them having only filmed about 25% of the movie so far. I have to say, Robert Pattinson looks a lot more natural in this suit than any Batman prior. I highly recommend checking this panel out and hearing Matt Reeves' thoughts on the project, there is a lot of thought and care that went into it.
