"DC Comics is reviving ***** ***** - aka The ***** - the popular superhero killed off by the publisher 23 years ago, the Daily News has learned... DC Comics will announce the *****'s resurrection today in the last panel of its DC UNIVERSE #0."

SPOILER AHEAD!!

UPDATE: The Associated Press reported this momentous event:

"We can do anything with them, and we can make them come back and make them defy death," Morrison said.

The NY Times also ran a story about the return of ***** ***** today.

And sure, thanks to time travel, we sometimes caught a glimpse of him, but that only made his death seem that much more permanent. Until today.

And yes, I originally posted this story WITHOUT any editing or spoilers. I understand how some people felt about that. But, given how public this story was on the internet, and given the comic was in stores TODAY, I did not see the harm. Just the same, I apologize to anyone offended, and I'll keep this in mind next time.

But, it's not as if this remained a secret anywhere else. Sure, the Beat didn't say upfront what the big secret was, but two comments later, the secret was out. Newsarama had a "courtesy spoiler," but made it clear the "cat's out of the bag."

Furthermore, from the Occasional Superheroine blog, which posted the story at 9:30 AM this morning, slightly before I did (I think): "Sorry, guys -- I assumed this morning that the news was common knowledge over the Internet after DC gave previews and interviews to the Daily News specifically revealing the ending." Ditto, Valerie, ditto.

So, yes, next time, I'll be more courteous and load up on the spoiler warnings and teasers.

As far as I know, the Daily News was the first with this story.

Morrison and Johns had been waiting for the right moment to bring back their childhood hero. In Johns' words, "When the greatest evil comes back to the DC Universe, the greatest hero needed to return."

And here's your clue, TURN AWAY NOW!!!
