Music Memorabilia & Concert Posters Signature® Auction #7262 at Heritage

Heritage’s upcoming Entertainment & Music Memorabilia auction features several graded and ungraded concert posters worth catching collectors’ eyes. Here are a couple worth taking a look over if you’re looking to add an iconic poster or two to your collection.

BG-0 Grass Roots, Quicksilver Messenger Service 1966 Fillmore Concert Poster in a CGC-Graded 9.8. According to Heritage, "This is a first-printing San Francisco concert poster advertising for the Grass Roots, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and Family Tree show playing at the Fillmore Auditorium on April 22 and 23 in 1966. This piece is designed by Bonnie MacLean and is known as BG-0 in the Bill Graham numbered series.  This poster measures 12 5/8" x 18 5/8" and was graded 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC."

A 9.8 sold for $720 in 2019 through PAE. The current high bid on this entry is $155.

Also up for bids is a first printing FD-26 Grateful Dead 1966 "Skeleton & Roses" Concert Poster CGC-Graded Near Mint Plus 9.6. This is one of the most iconic posters to pop culture, with instantly recognizable art that has crossed over into many facets of our modern entertainment culture.

"This poster was printed to advertise two nights of concerts on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16 and 17, 1966 at the legendary Avalon Ballroom. "Mouse Studios 66" is credited as the artist (both Mouse and Alton Kelley), and "The Bindweed Press, San Francisco" is the printer. How seminal was this time in the Dead's history? Well, just two weeks later their first Warner Bros. recording contract was drawn up."

A 9.8 "Skeleton & Roses" sold in 2019 for $118,750 through Heritage and a 9.4 sold in March for $32,200 through ClassicPosters.com. The current high bid on this piece is $6,750.

One more I'm watching is a BG-45 Grateful Dead, The Doors 1967 Fillmore Concert Poster CGC-Graded 9.8. "This is a first-printing San Francisco concert poster for the Grateful Dead, the Doors, and the Junior Wells Chicago Blues Band playing at the Fillmore Auditorium on Friday through Sunday nights, January 13-15, 1967. Designed by Wes Wilson, this is an extremely popular poster in the BG series due to the presence of both Jerry Garcia and Jim Morrison and Wilson's sublime psychedelic artwork."

There are only four 9.8s in the CGC census, with none graded higher. The current high bid rests at $115.

Each poster in this grab bag is a first printing original. The final sales price fell within the estimated value of $200 - $500.
