2022 is starting off with a bang with one of the first concert poster auctions of the new year. The latest from Psychedelic Art Exchange (PAE) features a huge selection of CGC Certified Concert Posters & Handbills. Let's take a look at what they have to offer.

Internet bidding is currently open, with live bidding opening on Jan 16, 2022, at 9:00 PM EST. Check out the link HERE for more information. Alrighty, let's dive right into a look at one of the year's first concert poster auctions.

1993 BGP-90 Nirvana Oakland Coliseum Poster 9.8

6 people have already bid on this piece of Nirvana history, and for obvious reasons. Graded 9.8 by CGC, this poster advertises Nirvana's 12/31/93 show at the Oakland Coliseum in California.

PAE's description reads as follows; "Artist Harry Rossit designed a fabulous image for this lively New Years Eve concert featuring Nirvana. The Gods of Grunge had just released their album "In Utero", which clearly inspired Rossit's poster design. We've noticed a recent climb in interest lately for concert material showcasing this iconic band. This New Years Eve 1993 issue is in Museum Quality Condition."

There are currently 30 Blue Lables registered in the CGC census.  The most recent three to sell in the same grade have gone for $800.00 (Sep 9, 2021, eBay), $800 (Sep 8, 2021, eBay), and $660 (Apr 8, 2021, PAE).

This item is estimated to land between $300 and $600.

1973 AOR-4.147 Rolling Stones Hawaii Signed Poster 9.2

Alright, Stones fans, this one's for you.  This CGC graded 9.2 advertises the Rolling Stones show at the Honolulu Center in Honolulu, Hawaii on 1/23/73.

Its quality is only enhanced by the fact that it's signed by its artist, David Singer.

From PAE, "This run of shows was from the 1973 Pacific tour, which included several selections from the Rolling Stones pivotal early 70's recordings "Exile on Main Street" and "Sticky Fingers". The Rolling Stones are synonymous with Rock n Roll, and therefore their material is highly sought after by collectors."

This is the only 9.2 in the CGC Census, and one of only 8 graded Blue Labels in existence, making data scarce. A 9.4 sold for 1,080.00 on Nov 19, 2020, through PAE.

There are currently 9 bids on this entry, with a high bid of $475. It's already well-within its estimated realization of $350 to $650.

1966 FD-26 Grateful Dead Avalon RP3 Poster 9.8

You know it's a good concert poster auction anytime you see Grateful Dead's "Skeleton and Roses" hit the block. It's one of the most important and famous concert posters ever created, and this CGC authenticated graded reprint is up for bids.

According to PAE, "The FD 26 is without question one of the Holy Grails in the entire Psychedelic Concert Poster genre. This issue is on everybody's top 3 lists of most desirable posters. This world-famous piece of art was designed by the legendary 1960s concert poster artists Stanley Mouse and the late Alton Kelley.

The story of Mouse and Kelley searching the stacks at the San Francisco library for an appropriate illustration for the poster is well documented. The duo discovered this illustration by 19th-century artist, Edward Joseph Sullivan, for an edition of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam."

Nearly two years ago, a first printing sold for $118,750. This third printing (RP-3) poster is much more attainable.  3 of the 23 graded Blue Labels in the CGC census are 9.8s, with a 9.6 landing at $632.50 back in 2018 through concertposterauctions.com. This entry currently rests at $1,900 after 6 bids and is estimated to land between $2,000 and $4,000.

1967 NR-12 Chambers Brothers The Matrix Poster 9.8

Only printed once, this poster, designed by Victor Moscoso, is one of the best-remembered from the '60s.  In fact, the image was reused in 2001 for a handbill promoting an exhibit of psychedelic posters at the San Diego Museum of Art.

From PAE, "This popular Neon Rose issue for a Chamber Brothers show at the Matrix is a collector's favorite. Always a standout in the poster series, this image pops up all the time in articles and books about the psychedelic rock poster."

There are 32 9.8 Blue Labels graded in the CGC Census, with most recent sales hitting $2,520 (May 13, 2021, PAE), $2,400 (Apr 8, 2021, PAE), and $2,520 (Dec 3, 2020, PAE.) Currently, this poster has a high bid of $1,300 after 8 bids. It's expected to land between $1,500 and $2,500.

1969 AOR-2.22 Youngbloods Avalon Poster 8.0

This is one of 3 CGC graded 8.0s in the census, with only 5 graded total. The last 8.0 to sell at auction went for $660.00 back on Jan 17, 2019, through PAE.

From PAE, "After the Family Dog ended their tenure at the Avalon Ballroom, a production company named Sound Proof Productions began hosting shows at the venue. Soundproof enlisted the talents of artist Rick Griffin for this beautiful poster art. The partnership left three incredible pieces of Griffin artwork for collectors to acquire. The most noteworthy was the famous Aoxomoxoa poster, but there were two other wonderful Griffin sleepers, this being one of them. This poster was for a performance by the Youngbloods at the Avalon. The design borrows symbols that were repeatedly used in Griffin's creations. The Hopi Indian Mask and The Flying Eye both make an appearance in this very overlooked Griffin Poster.
Currently, this poster has a high bid of $121 after only 5 bids. It's estimated value is between $1,500 and $2,500.
