Psychedelic Art Exchange Mega Sale II – Vintage Concert Posters

The PAE October Mega Sale Auction Part II is the follow-up to their recently-completed sale of 200 lots. Part II  presents an additional selection of paper collectibles culled from the history of American popular music. 115688217_1_x-216x300 Concert Poster Auctions: Mega Sale 2 at PAE and CGC Posters at Heritage

The items up for auction are guaranteed authentic by The Psychedelic Art Exchange. This No Reserve auction contains 200 lots that all start at $1.

People are definitely showing interest in a 1988 Grateful Dead Spring Tour Peter Max Poster. This poster was designed by the legendary artist Peter Max. Max was one of the most successful commercial artists of the era. It also helped popularize the imagery and color schemes that were created by the San Francisco poster artists.

These posters are very rare, so much so that condition has been known to play little into its desirability. This one, however, is PAE Graded Near Mint 89. Another Max issue in similar condition previously reached over $800 in a past PAE auction.

This poster has a current high bid of $425 after 8 bids.

115688207_1_x-180x300 Concert Poster Auctions: Mega Sale 2 at PAE and CGC Posters at HeritageAlso worth a watch is a 1971 AOR 4.13 OP-1 Hells Angels Party Signed Poster.

From PAE, “The Hells Angels Motorcycle club was an integral part of the 1960s counterculture. They were also known for throwing exciting parties. This poster is for one such event that occurred at Longshoremen’s Hall in 1971.

The Macabre, yet humorous advertisement for the event was created by Randy Tuten and is featured in The Art of Rock, plate 4.13. There were 2 original versions produced, a color and a black/white. This is the OP-1 color version. This poster is signed by the artist, Randy Tuten.”

This entry has been graded  MINT 93 and currently rests on a high bid of $650 after 7 bids. It is estimated to sell between $1,500$2,500.

115688180_1_x-202x300 Concert Poster Auctions: Mega Sale 2 at PAE and CGC Posters at HeritageOne more worth a watch is a 1969 Rolling Stones Saville Theater Mounted Poster.

Most collectors are familiar with the iconic poster art designed by David Byrd, which was used for shows promoting the band’s 1969 Tour of the Americas. Technically, that tour ended with the low-note Altamont Festival on December 6th, however, 2 additional dates were added in London at the Saville & Lyceum Theaters.

The same Byrd-designed tour posters were used to promote these UK shows, and England’s own Procol Harum opened for the Stones on the 21st at the Lyceum.

This poster is mounted and exhibits some paper loss. It has a current high bid of $111 after 6 bids.

Jimi Hendrix 1968 Fillmore East FE-7 Concert Poster CGC-Graded 8.5 (AOR-2.90). An original first-printing concert poster for the Jimi Hendrix Experience playing two shows at Bill Graham’s Fillmore East auditorium on Friday, May 10, 1968. Poster artist David Byrd’s masterwork.

From Heritage, “Byrd, of course, is famous for designing many important concert posters of the 1960s, among them: the original “Woodstock – An Aquarian Exposition” poster in Wallkill, NY, before it changed locations; the Rolling Stones’ 1969 American comeback ‘tour blank’ poster; other Fillmore East concert posters for The Who and the Jefferson Airplane; the Grateful Dead at Nassau Coliseum in 1973; and the only ‘tour blank’ that Hendrix himself ever used, over many shows in early 1969. The way Byrd meticulously created the hundreds of little circles all over this poster, especially in the blending of Jimi’s, Noel’s and Mitch’s afros, is simply spellbinding. And its pink and orange coloring gives it almost a unique appearance amongst psychedelic concert posters.”

The high bid on this poster at the time of this writing is $1,650.
