Specifically, the transition that I am referring to introduces more diverse characters. The intention is to showcase other characters of different ethnic backgrounds and gender. One current example of comic gender-swaps is Black Widow. Not to give away the whole plot, but there is a character that has been gender-swapped. Generally in the comics, this particular character is recognized by fans as a male, but for this movie, the character is a female. Below are interesting issues where we could see more characters be replaced as a female.

This gender swap is a long shot, but I figured I add it on for all the Amazing Spider-Man fans. With the possible multi-verse plot highly speculated on in the upcoming Spider-Man movie, and what if we saw the character Electro as a female? It is crazy since rumors believe that Jamie Foxx will reprise his role as Electro in the movie.

Anyways, what if we saw a female version of Electro? Well, there is one that exists in the comics. Francine Frye appears as Electro in Amazing Spider-Man #17.2021-07-19-253x300 Comic Gender-Swaps: Do We Expect More Going Forward?

With all the craziness that is rumored to occur in this movie, the sky is the limit on who can appear at this point. It is a cheap key that can be found in dollar bins in your comic shop.

Currently, the FMV of a 9.8 rests at $50, with the most recent sale (April 2021, eBay,) going for precisely that amount. That, combined with only 52 blue-label 9.8s listed in the GCG census makes this a book with a lot of potential, even if it is a long shot.

Lady Johanna Constantine

sand-197x300 Comic Gender-Swaps: Do We Expect More Going Forward?Well, DC Comics is currently in a pickle. The current predicament is how to proceed forward with their DC Extended Universe (DCEU). While John Constantine remains a popular figure to join the universe, there is nothing confirmed. Maybe there is a consideration in possibly just introducing a female version?

Lady Johanna Constantine is an ancestor of John Constantine and sorcerer. Her first appearance is noted in Sandman #13. In the comics, her time of existence is before John, but a simple fix of her origin story is quite possible.

DC Comics could follow Marvel and try to include more female heroes going forward. They might think that doing this could turn the tide in getting more people to watch their movies. Marvel is a good example that diversity can work in their tv shows and movies.

The current FMV of a 9.8 is $140, though recent sales don’t make it up that high. The three most recent sales land at $99.95 (eBay 1/28/21), $73 (eBay 9/28/20), and $75 (eBay 5/20/20).

Lady Bullseye

dare-196x300 Comic Gender-Swaps: Do We Expect More Going Forward?Daredevil’s popularity has grown in the last couple of years. Mainly, that popularity is the result of the live-action tv show on Netflix. The show ran for a couple of seasons on the streaming platform and gained a following. Currently, rumors are high about the character possibly joining the MCU in the upcoming Spider-Man movie.

If Daredevil does join the MCU, one villain to oppose him in showing up should be Bullseye. With that, I could see Marvel also pull a gender swap with this villain. If so, then the issue to grab is Daredevil #111. This issue contains the first appearance and origin of Lady Bullseye. While the male version did appear in the television series, it is pretty much a done deal that he will not reprise the role in the MCU. Though, Charlie Cox, who plays Daredevil, is heavily rumored to reprise his role for the MCU. So, the possible gender swap could be considered going forward for the MCU.

There are VERY few books listed in the CGC census. Keep an eye out for this one!
