With spring officially here it's time for Hake's March auction! They're kicking off the season with a banger of an auction, featuring comic books s from multiple eras for every type of collector. From March 21 - 22, collectors can bid on a number of unique finds. Here's my pick of comics you should keep your eyes on.

Showcase #22

The first appearance of Hal Jordan, also known as the Silver Age (and current) Green Lantern, is a huge key book for many of us. This book has waned in price over the years, with prices practically taking a nose dive after the ill-fated Ryan Reynolds movie. This issue tells the origin of how Hal Jordan became the successor to Abin Sur, a Green Lantern who crashed on Earth. Gil Kane's artwork shines in this issue, and now is the best time to buy a copy for yourself. With James Gunn's announcement of a new Green Lantern series, interest in this book will rise.

This CGC blue label 2.5 has off-white pages and was clearly loved. I personally prefer lower-grade books as they have more character, and they can be cheaper than their higher-graded counterparts. The one-year average for blue label 2.5s is $3,008, while the current 90-day average is $2,425. With this slight dip, this could be a great chance for Green Lantern fans to get their hands on this soon-to-be hot book.

Little Nemo in Slumberland

Little Nemo in Slumberland by Winsor McCay is a staple in the Platinum Age era, and the character is still enjoyed by readers to this day. In the fall of 2022, Netflix released a Slumberland movie, based on the 100+-year-old comic strip. If you've been thinking about starting a Platinum Age collection, here's a great book to start with. Published by Cupples & Leon in 1909, this book collects previously printed cartoon strips that could be found in your local Sunday paper. While this book isn't in the best condition -- the cover is cracked and separated -- this is still a wonderful book.

Little Nemo in Slumberland is particularly hard to find. This copy is ideal for a collector who knows how to take care of books such as this. Hakes notes that this book is in otherwise Good condition. This book could easily reach $2,000.

Mickey Mouse Book

In 1928 Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks created what would become one of the most recognizable and iconic characters of all time, Mickey Mouse. The mischievous mouse became an overnight sensation, and today Disney is one of the most recognized brands on the planet. In 1930, two years after Mickey's debut, Bibo & Lang published this Mickey Mouse Book -- the first Mickey Mouse publication. While this isn't a first printing, this is still an important piece of Disney and publishing history.

With Disney Animation turning 100 this year, there may be more eyes than normal on Walt's creations. This book could sell for a smidge over $1,00 (if not more) despite not being a first edition. This would be a wonderful piece for Disney and Platinum Age collectors. Hakes notes that this issue is in overall Fine condition.
