Current & Upcoming Comic Auctions:

ComicConnect’s Event Auction #47 Opens

ComicConnect's latest collection of auction entrees contains a little bit of everything for comic collectors.

Do the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ever slow down? Known as the most valuable comic of the Copper Age, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 CGC 9.6 NM+ with white to off-white pages is sitting at $21,000 after 6 bids.

This first official appearance of the turtles has been hot for a while now, with all grades besides 9.8 seeing a double (and often triple) digit upward trend. The most recent Blue Lable 9.6 to hit auction brought in $66,000 in April through Heritage.

The anticipation of the X-Men's appearance in the MCU has kept the team's keys at the forefront of collectors' minds for months now, and this book is another opportunity to add a burning-hot key to someone's collection. A Giant-Size X-Men #1 CGC graded 9.8 is available for bids and has a current high bid of $8,200 with 24 days left to go.

Recent sales of this book in a 9.8 have been a little bit all over the place. Most recently, it brought in $49,200 (Heritage 7/26/21), $72,000 (Heritage 6/19/21), and $60,000 (ComicConnect 4/16/21). Where will this one end up? I'm not sure; who has a guess?

One more to keep an eye on is a Star Wars #1 CGC 9.4 (35 Cent Variant). At this time this book was released, Marvel was experimenting with a 5 cent price increase, with 35 cent copies of many comics available - but only in a select few cities.

[caption id="attachment_138111" align="alignright" width="300"] Star Wars #1 35c CGC Census - GoCollect[/caption]

Distribution markings on the comics suggest that that the 35 cent newsstand variant of Star Wars #1 was distributed to only four cities (Memphis, Toledo, Tuscaloosa, and Wilmington). As such, this variant is very rare and worth plenty to the dedicated core of Star Wars collectors.

A 9.4 hasn't come to auction since 2008, when a copy sold on ComicConnect for $27,111. There are only 15 9.4s noted in the CGC census, with 3 9.6s being the only copies graded higher. Click HERE or on the graph to read more sales data on this book.

Bidding opened August 9, 2021, at noon. Check out all the entries in this auction HERE.

Heritage’s 2021 August 26 Certified Modern Age Comics Showcase Auction #40176

Modern Comics are coming to Heritage in an auction hitting the blocks later this month with online bidding available now.

The Amazing Spider-Man #238 (Marvel, 1983) CGC NM/MT 9.8 with white pages is worth a watch. This first appearance of Hobgoblin (Ned Leeds) has a current FMV of $3,500 and has seen several recent sales in every grade available. An identically graded copy sold just yesterday for $3,360 on Heritage. This copy has a current high bid of $1,150 with 16 days left to go before the auction closes.

Gwen's still got it. An Edge of Spider-Verse #2 Variant Edition (Marvel, 2014) CGC NM/MT 9.8 with white pages is available for bidding. This book features the first appearance of the new Spider-Woman (Gwen Stacy). The first printing of this issue sold a little over 60,000 copies worldwide, and this 1:25 retailer incentive variant has been considered the most sought-after by collectors.

The current FMV of this grade is $6,500, with its three most recent sales going for $6,000 (5/14/21), $6,900 (2/28/21), and $6,142.23 (12/22/20), all on eBay. These prices have held relatively steady over the last year, but they're a massive increase from two years ago when this book was bringing in just $2,500 (7/19/19, eBay). Comic Auctions: Results Worth a Look:

ComicLink's Focused Auction Session 3 Ends

This auction featured certified late Bronze through Modern Age comic books (post-1975) and ended on August 6th.

After 86 bids, a CGC 9.8 Near Mint-Mint copy of X-Men #120 sold for a whopping $11,405. This blows both the current FMV ($4,600) and other sales prices of this grade out of the water. Currently, every grade of this book is seeing a dramatically positive upward trend.

The first appearance of Usagi Yojimbo was the second-highest earner at this party, with a CGC 8.5 Albedo #2 in Very Fine+ condition going for $8,311. The print run of this key issue is estimated to have been only a couple thousand. This makes it one of the scarcest Modern keys. Now, demand is poised to skyrocket for this issue as an Usagi Yojimbo Netflix series is on the slate.

2021 August 8-9 Sunday & Monday Comic Books Select Auction #122132 Closes at Heritage:

[caption id="attachment_138116" align="alignleft" width="300"] Journey Into Mystery #83 Sales -GoCollect[/caption]

Heritage's latest weekly auction has closed. Here are the top three highest earners and a couple sales of which to take note.

A Journey Into Mystery #83 (Marvel, 1962) CGC FN+ 6.5 with off-white to white pages sold for $36,000, taking the most expensive title this week. This book features the origin and first appearance of Thor (Dr. Don Blake) as well as the first appearance of Mjolnir.

This book has been taking off lately, with a high jump in sales prices from a year ago, when a 6.5 could expect to see sales of $13,200 (8/24/20, Heritage) and $12,000 (6/29/20, Heritage). Read more about the most recent sales and values of this book HERE.

The second-highest earner this week was a CGC graded 3.0 Amazing Fantasy #15 (Marvel, 1962) in Good to Very Good condition with cream to off-white pages. This copy realized $31,200, which is slightly lower than the two most recent sales of this grade ($32,400, Heritage, 7/19/21 and $35,000, ComicConnect, 4/13/21). Still, 3.0s are seeing a 73.4% upward trend with no sign of slowing down. Take a look at more sales data for this book HERE.

Rounding off our top three highest earners is a Showcase #4 The Flash (DC, 1956) CGC VG- 3.5 with cream to off-white pages. This book is a special one; it's considered by most to be the first Silver Age comic and is the first appearance of the Silver Age Flash (Barry Allen) and first appearance of Iris West.

Bringing in $21,600, this sale has annihilated other sales in this grade. Exactly one year ago, this book sold on Heritage for $12,000.

Promise Collection Sales:

A Detective Comics #83 (DC, 1944) CGC VF 8.0 with off-white to white pages sold for $4,080. This is the first comic book appearance of the Bat-Cave as well as the first "skinny" Alfred. It's also both the last Joe Simon and Jack Kirby Boy Commandos story and one of only 3 8.0s listed in the CGC census.

As with most of these Promise Collection pieces, there isn't a ton of recent data to compare this sale price to. An 8.0 hasn't sold at auction since 2016, when a copy brought in $1,000 on eBay.

A Superman #21 (DC, 1943) CGC FN/VF 7.0 with white pages brought in $3,600.  There are only 97 total Blue Label books listed in the CGC census and only 7 of those are 7.0s.  Back in 2019, a copy in this grade sold for $780 on Heritage. Read more sales data on this book by clicking HERE.
