Event Auction #48 at ComicConnect

With just days to go before ComicConnect's final event auction of the year ends, there's still time to get some great books. As we've seen prior, ComicConnect has everything for every type of collector -- from pulps to modern.

Venom has been a comic reader favorite since he first made his debut in Amazing Spider-Man #252 in 1984. The sinister anti-hero has seen his own spinoff series and has even been the subject of his own movies starring Tom Hardy. His solo series Venom: Lethal Protector gave Eddie Brock -- the Venom host most people are familiar with -- his own series.

This CGC Signature Series 9.8 with white pages is a book that shouldn't be overlooked. This book features signatures from Stan Lee, Mark Bagley, Al Milgrom, Todd McFarlane, Danny Fingeroth, and Tom DeFalco. There are a few other CGC Sig Series 9.8's in the census, and while they all range in price (depending on the signature), buyers can expect to pay between $1500-$2300 for similar books. Venom's stock has been going up, so this could be a good speculators piece.

Big Little Books are certainly for a niche collector, but they play an important role in the history of comics. These little books predate the modern graphic novel and were an inexpensive way for fans of pulp and platinum age characters to get their fill. This lot of 14 BLB's features heroes such as The Phantom, Flash Gordon, and even Little Lulu! BLB's can range in price, and while there isn't a lot of price data on BLB's, this lot should end at a good price.

These make great stocking stuffers for both you, and someone you may be buying for. If you're looking at these as possible investment pieces, you might be hanging onto them for a long while. Some BLB books do command big bucks, but the books in this collection will maybe net you a few extra dollars from your winning bid.

Matt Baker's definitive good girl art shines inside this copy of All Top Comics #10, featuring both Rulah and Phantom Lady! This cover, by Jack Kamen, features Rulah rescuing a damsel in distress from having her head chopped off.

This classic bondage cover will appeal to a wide variety of people, especially given its CGC Universal 7.0 label with off-white pages.

A similar 7.0 sold for $822 in January of 2021, making this an affordable, and eye-catching, Golden Age piece. This book has seen steady prices for the past 2 years, with only one small dip in 2020.

For modern collectors, this CGC Signature Series 9.8 with white pages copy of Something is Killing the Children #1 should be appealing -- especially since it's signed by James Tynion IV. Tynion has been on fire as of late, and Something is Killing the Children is no exception.

Similar 9.8's had seen a slight drop in value, but have been climbing back since. The most recent sale for a similar book was November 30, 2021, when a book sold for $2750. A day earlier, another 9.8 sold for $3100. If you are looking at this book as an investment piece, hang onto it. Too many of the same book on the market has the potential to hinder its value.

ComicLink’s Focused Auction

ComicLink has some really interesting books in this collection, ranging from Golden Age to Modern. Their last event auction is broken up into groups, with their second group starting December 10. Let's take a look at what we can find for this upcoming group. Maybe we can find some books you may have overlooked. Comic Auctions

We may be closer to Christmas, but for some of us, Halloween is forever. This copy of Ghost Rider #1 with a CGC Universal 9.2 featuring white pages is the first solo Ghost Rider series, with the first cameo appearance of Son of Satan. Ghost Rider has been an interesting book to watch on the market.

This book has been up and down across all grades, tho current trends are looking favorable for this book. A similar 9.2 sold for $1700 in November 2021, a jump from its $800 sale in June of the same year.

This book has been in speculation for some time, so will we see a price jump on this book? It's hard to say, but it's worth keeping an eye on. Comic Auctions

Frankenstein #7 is also a unique comic horror (and Halloween) fans should be following. This dynamic Bronze Age comic also features Dracula (who might be making a cinematic return with Nic Cage as the blood sucker), another horror icon.

This highest-graded CGC Universal 9.8 with white pages may seem like an easy book to overlook, but don't count it out. This book has been relatively calm on the investment front -- a similar 9.8 sold for a high of $264 in May of 2021, so this book could surpass that price.

Bronze books have also seen price bumps due to increased interest -- after all, there are so many uncovered gems in this era!

Comic AuctionsLoki is arguably one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His first appearance in Journey into Mystery #85 has been a collector's favorite for some time. Featuring Loki in his classic gold and green suit (as seen in the Loki Disney+ series), this CGC Universal 3.5 with white pages still presents very well.

Similar 3.5's have seen a price bump over the last few years, likely due to their affordability. A similar 3.5 sold for $3480 in November of 2021, a slight drop from the $4350 price in May of 2021.

The show likely helped in this slight jump, but I wouldn't be too worried. Loki is a fan favorite, and this book is a good speculators' piece.

Comic Auctions: Results

It's been a particularly good year for collectible comics, but what has that changed due to the holiday season? We won't see realized auction prices on books from ComicLink or ComicConnect yet, and Heritage did not have a weekly comic auction this past week. But don't despair true believers. This does happen from time to time, so this shouldn't come as any surprise.

Be sure to check out GoCollect's weekly video game market watch to see what's happening on the more 8-bit side of life! As I said earlier, starting next week we will have realized prices from all three auction houses. We'll finally get to see where some of those big Golden and Silver Age books will land. We might even get a few surprises thrown our way as well.

Did you win anything cool this week? Excited about a realized price for an ended auction? Just want to talk about old books?

Let us know your comic auctions thoughts in the comments below! And as always, happy bidding.
