During the Golden Age of Comics, Thanksgiving covers weren't exactly the norm, but when they did appear they were fun and colorful, giving people a sense of normalcy during the Second World War.

The holidays are knocking down on our doors again. Many of us might gather with friends and family, or some of us might just stay home and have a celebration for one. Since the Victorian Age, cartoons (and now, modern comics) have been depicting Thanksgiving in one way or another.

Comic Calvacade #18

With a publication date of December 10, 1946, this issue missed Thanksgiving by a mere few weeks. But all the same, the cover features Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Lantern all chasing an angry-looking turkey.

Currently, on the census, there are fewer than 30 of them graded with a CGC blue label, and one restored label. While I wouldn't say this comic is rare -- or even a hot book -- they don't come up for sale too often. Currently, there is a CGC blue label 9.2 for sale on eBay for $4,499.99. The last time this book sold was in April 2022 when a 9.4 blue label/Pedigree sold for $3,480 on Heritage.

Superboy #36

While this may not seem overtly Thanksgiving, I'm still going to include this late Golden Age gem. This cover features Superboy and his family against a green background, as Superboy carves into a large bird. After WW2, many superhero comics went defunct, while those that survived still featured high flying adventure, but with a little bit more family fun.

Superboy's wholesome image is on full display in this comic! There are only a handful of graded copies on the census, but you can find plenty of raw copies on eBay for under $130.

More Fun Comics #26

More Fun Comics never shied away from holiday covers. This Thanksgiving theme cover from November 1937 is just plain cute. Turkeys can be imposing animals to a child -- after all, they can see eye to eye! There's only a handful of these comics on the census, ranging from mid-grade to high grade.

The last time a copy was sold was in July 2022, when a CGC blue label 6.5 sold for $3,360. This book is hard to come by, so if you're looking to add it to your holiday collection you may be hunting for a while!

Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies Comics #26

This fun and colorful cover featured Bugs Bunny and a turkey who's sharpening an axe, with an open rabbit recipe book to the side. The Looney Tunes gang are perfect characters to stick in almost any holiday and situation. They can adapt and blend easily for whatever the story calls for. The Looney Tunes would do many more holiday covers, but this one really stands out as it turns the tables on us.

Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies comics aren't hard to find. Chances are, you can find this book easily at most conventions, or even in back issue bins at your local comic shop. There are only a handful of graded copies on the census, with most of them being in high grade. The last time a copy sold was November 2022, when a CGC blue label 9.4 sold for $840 on Heritage.
