Cable and Punisher saw two of their key issues fall on hard times this week, but the 1,001st position revealed a hidden gem. Welcome to the coldest comics of the week.

Not every comic can be a winner. On one end of the spectrum, we have the biggest movers in the Hottest Comics rankings. Then there are these issues, the ones collectors turned up their noses to, at least for one week.

That is the key - it is only one week. These are five comics with some of the biggest drop-offs in sales volume over the past seven days. It is a snapshot, and things can change quickly in the world of comics, but it does give us an idea of what issues were not selling for the past week.

986. NEW MUTANTS #87 (-961)

New Mutants #87 is once again on our weekly list. Sometimes, it is one of the biggest movers in all of comicdom. Then the reverse is true, and NM #87 will find its way to the bottom of the barrel. This week happens to be the latter.

With the recent news that Disney would be producing an R-rated Deadpool 3 in the years to come, it leaves us to wonder if Josh Brolin will reprise his role as Cable. In that event, this comic will yet again bubble back to the surface of the Hottest Comics rankings.

909. PUNISHER #1 ONGOING SERIES (-852)

Punisher #1 is the least surprising comic to be included on today’s list.

Not much is happening with the Punisher at the moment. While he maintains his popularity, all has been quiet on the MCU front. Sure, there is plenty of outcry for a continuation of the Netflix Punisher series on Disney+, but that does not appear to be the case. Despite numerous rumors to the contrary, it looks like the live-action Frank Castle will be on the shelf for the foreseeable future.

915. UNCANNY X-MEN #221 (-726)

Most X-Men key issues are on the move, and it is noteworthy that Mister Sinister’s first appearance in Uncanny X-Men #221 has fallen outside the top 900 and landed on our Coldest Comics list.

With the X-Men’s imminent arrival in the MCU, there has been plenty of speculation that Sinister will be part of the new brand of movie mutants. He was heavily teased in the Fox X-verse, and with Evan Peters reprising his role as Quicksilver for WandaVision, it stands to reason that Marvel Studios is picking up where Fox left off. That could mean the inclusion of one Nathaniel Essex. That is why this issue will rebound in short order.

666. ETERNALS #2 (-661)

Last week, this issue was fifth on the Hottest Comics rankings. Now, it has plunged to the dubious #666 (shouldn’t Silver Surfer #3 have a foothold on this rank?). With The Eternals movie on the horizon, there is no way Eternals #2 will stay outside the top 100 for very long. I would be surprised if it did not crack the top 50 by this time next week.

1001. THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD #1 (-2)

The bottom of the list this week held a true diamond in the rough. The Thing From Another World is from 1991, but it has a Golden Age horror apparel to it, which I am sure is deliberate. Considering this is the comic sequel to John Carpenter’s The Thing, which was a remake of 1951’s The Thing, it makes perfect sense that the cover art would be reminiscent of a classic horror poster.

For decades, Dark Horse held the market on movie adaptations and continuations. These days, those comics are beginning to pay dividends, as in the cases of Aliens and Predator. If The Thing were to get an actual sequel and not just another run-of-the-mill prequel, it is possible that The Thing From Another World #1 could become a hot comic.

That's that for the Coldest Comics of the week! Stay tuned for more info!
