Spider-Man 2099 and Damian Wayne were wallflowers at the school dance known as the Hottest Comics.

How do we get the rankings? Updated daily, the data is pulled from eBay’s realtime sales figures, thus giving GoCollect users the 100 best-selling single issues across the famed auction site. Keep in mind this list does not reflect fair market values. While an issue may be breaking records, that doesn’t mean the sales volume is enough to make it onto the list.

This week, let’s take a look at the five issues that lost the most ground in the past 10 days.

90. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #365 (-79)

For several months, it had been smooth sailing for ASM #365. With Across the Spider-Verse on the horizon and the trailers exciting the masses, collectors and investors alike were scouring the auction sites for those Spider-Man 2099 key issues. That list begins here, and it’s caused ASM #365 to climb the rankings week after week. However, nothing lasts forever, and even a red-hot key like this one can fall on hard times.

Miguel O’Hara’s debut had been firmly cemented in the top 20 for several weeks. Only days ago, it was all the way up to the 11th spot and looking to move into the top 10. Then the hammer came down, and ASM #365 took a mighty fall, landing in the 90th overall position. Make no mistake, this comic will rebound in short order. Despite that, it still gets saddled with the distinction of this week’s Coldest Comic.

Why did it take such a beating in the rankings? Prices are likely peaking for the high grades, and that will take its toll on the overall sales. For the moment, we could see prices take a slight dip, which is great if you have been on the fence about investing. As we see whenever a major film hits theaters, the closer we get to the release date, the more interest buyers will take in those key issues. No doubt, it will cause a second wave of interest for ASM #365, but we aren’t likely to see the values elevate much higher than they are now.

96. FANTASTIC FOUR #52 (-66)

The King of Wakanda was not feeling the love from the secondary market this week. Black Panther’s historic first appearance took a thump in the rankings, and FF #52 took a nosedive into the 96th position. For a key of this magnitude, seeing it fall by 66 spots is one thing, but to border on leaving the Hottest Comics altogether is a different story.

Before anyone gets carried away, this is not an indication that buyers have lost interest in Black Panther. Sure, the T’Challa character was written out of the MCU out of respect for the late actor Chadwick Boseman. It’s highly unlikely that T’Challa will return in any form aside from possibly an animated rendition on What If…?. The character’s legacy will keep this issue in the good graces of hobbyists everywhere. In Wakanda Forever, we saw Shuri officially take up the Black Panther mantle, and we can be sure that her character isn’t going anywhere. Could we see T’Challa’s son inherit the role at some point? Possibly, but for the foreseeable future, Shuri will be the MCU’s one and only Black Panther.

All that being said, Shuri getting the spotlight will keep eyes on BP’s first appearance in FF #52. Regardless of which character has the title, collectors will always have this issue at the top of their wish lists. With it being a holy grail, FF #52 remains an expensive addition to your long boxes, which undoubtedly played a role in the issue’s fall through the rankings. Couple those high prices with the lack of news on the live-action Black Panther front, and the case is closed on why FF #52 fell so hard.

85. BATMAN #655 (-62)

It wasn’t long ago that Damian Wayne ruled the Hottest Comics. After James Gunn announced that Damian would get his silver screen debut in The Brave and the Bold, collectors took to their favorite auction sites and tracked down all those delicious keys. The number one target was Batman #655, which featured Damian’s first cameo appearance in the official DC continuity.

From there, the chase was on. All of Damian’s early appearances caught fire overnight, and suddenly the DC keys were tearing through the rankings. Although Batman’s super son led the pack, several DC keys joined him at the top of the charts. As is typical, the sudden fire dampened, and those issues slowly trickled away. Still, Damian’s first appearances stayed inside the top 100. Even that is in danger now.

As Batman #655 clings to the Hottest Comics, it may be a boon for potential buyers. If the sales continue to drop, that should lead to lower prices. After the initial spike from the DCU Chapter One announcement, many collectors put this issue back on the shelf rather than paying inflated prices. If the price tags deflate, that will lead them back to the shores of Batman #655, a comic that is destined to see a second wave of interest once Damian’s role has been cast.

93. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #4 (-57)

Another previously hot issue has felt the chilly blast of the Coldest Comics this week. It was not long ago that Sony and Amazon confirmed that Silk was indeed getting her own live-action series. Not that we didn’t already know about that. After all, Silk had been announced years prior. The trouble was that it seemed to have fallen into developmental Hell, and there was no news on the subject for quite some time. As Sony announced Spider-Man spinoff after spinoff, it was finally made official that Silk was back on track to become a reality.

With that news came a massive wave of interest for Cindy Moon’s first appearance as Silk in ASM #4. Granted she had debuted as Cindy in ASM #1, gaining spider powers is what put her on the proverbial map. That sent buyers on a hunt for ASM #4, an issue that has been popular since the first time Sony announced the series was in development. Now that the show has been made 100% official, Silk’s debut has been tearing through the rankings.

If ASM #4 is so hot, why did it drop by nearly 60 spots to the 93rd position? As is the case with so many Coldest Comics, it comes down to buyers putting the trendy comics in the priority lane. We haven’t heard anything regarding casting or release date for Silk, and news ages fast in the world of cinematic superheroes. Still, once Sony begins to make the cast and plot public, ASM #4 will get a new wave of interest.

47. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #252 (-35)

Rounding out this week’s Coldest Comics is a staple of the top-100 best sellers, ASM #252. Having been crowned the official first appearance of the black suit that would become Venom, this issue has gained much more notoriety in the past year. Previously, the notion had been held that ASM #252 was tied with Spectacular Spider-Man #90 and Marvel Team-Up #141 for the suit’s first canonical appearance. However, ASM #252 was released ahead of the other two issues, making this the symbiote’s first appearance.

Of all five issues on today’s countdown, this is the least surprising to make the list. That’s not to say that this isn’t a popular issue, but it doesn’t get the same stature as Venom’s premiere in ASM #300, which happens to be Venom’s first full appearance. It makes getting ASM #252 less of a priority, thus it routinely rises and falls through the sales charts. Just days ago, it ranked as high as 12th only to find itself in 47th in short order. No question, it will rebound as quickly and be back in the high life before you know it.
