Do you like well-written comics that aren't just another super-hero tale? Do you want stories that are building the foundation of a longer narrative, that don't reveal everything upfront? Then you'll like OLD SOLDIERS #1. There's a boat-load of characters to keep track of from all over the world, but the idea here is to introduce you to all the players and make you want to come back to see what happens next. Overall, OLD SOLDIERS #1 is well written and drawn, and I look forward to seeing the rest of the series.

My two biggest recommendations would be: read this comic digitally, and return for issue #2. I say the first because, it's obvious this comic was made on a computer, and to me is best read on a computer or a hand held device. Honestly, I wouldn't have put the time or expense into printing a paper version. I say the second in view of, while I'm not 100% satisfied with the first issue, I believe it makes checking out future issues in the mini-series worth the effort.

One item that needs to be worked on: the placement of dialogue balloons. More than once I found myself having to go back and re-read part of a page, as the balloons had taken me down the wrong path. A little thing, maybe, but an important thing to me. Maybe it sticks out as OLD SOLDIERS arrived with a full-blown, well-crafted promotional arsenal, including a nifty website, Facebook page, and online game. I'd like to see more of that skill and effort put into the rest of this mini-series.
