Reading With PicturesChallengers Comics + Conversation is proud to present the Eating With Pictures Charity Cookout. On Saturday, August 7th, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm, Challengers will be grilling hamburgers, veggie burgers and hot dogs and selling them for $1 each as well as offering chips and sodas, also for $1. 100% of the money raised will go directly to Reading With Pictures, a Chicago-based non-profit organization that advocates the use of comic books in the classroom to promote literacy and to improve educational outcomes for all students.

Also available will be the Reading With Pictures Anthology, a brand new, full-color 192 page graphic novel, designed to demonstrate the power comics have in bridging the gap between entertainment and education. All 192 of the anthology's full-color pages are appropriate and accessible to the youngest of readers, yet still enjoyable and engaging for the oldest of them as well. On hand will be six of the contributors to the anthology, including Jeffrey Brown, Gabe Bautista, Michael Moreci, Russell Lissau, Trevor Mueller and Josh Elder.

"Chicago has an extensive comic book community," says Reading With Pictures Executive Director Josh Elder, "And better than the number of creators is how passionate they all are about literacy and education. We are fortunate to align ourselves with like-minded creators who genuinely care for their readers. And the folks at Challengers are no exception!"

"We're strong advocates of comics as educational tools," said Challengers Co-Owner Patrick Brower, "and of hot dogs and hamburgers being grilled, so we couldn't be more excited to work with the good people of Reading With Pictures on a summer cookout that raises awareness in their activities."

About Reading With Pictures

Reading With Pictures (http://readingwithpictures.org) was founded in 2009 by award-winning graphic novelist and nationally syndicated cartoonist Josh Elder in order to revolutionize the role of comics in education. At Reading With Pictures, we believe that comics have the potential to be more engaging, more efficient and more effective educational tools than traditional classroom materials. We believe it because we've experienced it in our own lives. Comics made us better students, better citizens and better people. Now we hope to share those experiences with pupils in every city, in every school and in every classroom.

About Challengers Comics + Conversation

Named "Best Comic Shop" by the Chicago Reader (June 2010) and "Best Comic Book Store" by Chicago Magazine (August 2009), Challengers Comics + Conversation (http://challengerscomics.com) strives to prove that the best thing about being in a comic book store is being in a comic book store. With a combined 38 years of comic retail experience, owners Patrick Brower and W. Dal Bush endeavor to bring Chicago a full-service, technologically interactive comic store that has the same level of wonder and enjoyment as the comics they sell. And read. And talk about. And champion.
