Welcome back to another installment of CGC 101! Are you thinking about submitting books for the first time? It's easier than ever to make sure your books get down to CGC headquarters in Sarasota, Florida. From submitting your books at comic con to having your own comic shop help you out, we've covered the bases.

Submitting at a convention

Submitting your books at a comic con is probably the easiest way to submit books. You simply go to up the CGC booth at a show, chat with one of their friendly customer service agents, fill out paperwork, and that's it. You'll keep the last page of the facsimile, but be aware that you will be charged once the books arrive at their facility in Sarasota, Florida. You will be charged full price, as listed on CGC's website.

The biggest draw to submitting on site is that you won't have to pay upfront to have the books shipped to CGC. In some cases, CGC also offers onsite grading, where you can get your books graded that very weekend. Currently, onsite grading has not happened since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and there is no word on if it will return.

The CGC booth also has witnesses on hand for anyone who wants to get their books signed and graded. Check out our Signature Series article for more information.

Submitting from home

Submitting books from home is the most common way to submit books for grading. Just as you would at a convention, you fill out similar paperwork through the website, and ship your books to CGC. The prices are reflected on their website (as we mentioned earlier), but shipping costs will vary depending on where you live.

Make sure to pack your books well -- using cardboard backers and bubble wrap is a great way to keep your books intact. Getting insurance on your packages might not be a bad idea either.

Submitting from a comic shop

Some comic book shops offer submission services for their customers. Prices and availability are subject to change, so ask your local comic shop if this is something they offer.

Submitting to CGC for a signing

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, comic cons across the world went on hold. But people still wanted to get their books signed, so CGC started offering in-house signings with certain creators. Prices on these signings vary, and there are deadlines for when your books need to arrive at CGC. For more information on this, please visit CGC's website.
