Boom StudiosMedia Release -- Clear Channel Radio today announced that it has partnered with one of rock’s most iconic institutions to create a brand new digital audio channel.

Launched today, CBGB Radio captures the spirit and intensity of the legendary club formerly located at 315 Bowery on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The station features music from the influential artists that performed at the venue, including Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, Patti Smith, as well as new underground rock artists. Additionally, listeners will hear snippets of artist interviews and commentary from those who knew CBGB best.

“The launch of CBGB Radio is both ironic and fantastic; ironic in that it was a never ending struggle to get the great artists and music launched from CBGBs on the radio back in the day. Fantastic in that it proves what I have always believed that the new, exciting and sometimes eclectic music of one generation becomes the pop music of the next,” said Seymour Stein, Co-founder / Chairman of Sire Records and recipient of the 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “If only Johnny, Joey and Dee Dee Ramone, Stiv Bators of The Deadboys, or Hilly Kristal were around to hear it.”

"If we can't go to CBGB's anymore, at least we have a place where we can listen to CBGB's,” said Lenny Kaye, the influential musician, writer and producer best known for his work as guitarist for poet-rocker Patti Smith. “All that's missing is the gruff and sweet voice of Hilly welcoming you to the dive..."

“CBGB was the epicenter of a cultural revolution and remains synonymous with underground rock,” said Bob Gruen, the legendary rock photographer who captured countless indelible moments at the club. “CBGB Radio will continue the club’s vital legacy for millions of music fans across the globe.”

CBGB Radio is available exclusively via the iheartradio network and mobile application, at CBGB.com and through a custom widget that listeners can post on their blogs, websites and social media pages.

iheartradio is a top 100 iPhone app and a top 20 BlackBerry app, with more than 4.8 million total unique downloads. The mobile version runs on the iPhone and iPod Touch, BlackBerry and smart phones with Android v1.5 or higher, including Motorola DROID, HTC Droid Eris, and Google’s new Nexus One.
