As the first generation of the Avenger’s plays out its ‘Endgame’, it's wise to look at possibilities for the future. One of the possible rising stars of future MCU movies and comics might be Cassie Lang. The daughter of Scott “Ant-Man” Lang, the character of Cassandra or ‘Cassie’ has been an integral part of the Marvel Universe since her debut as Stature and later during her transformation into Stinger. Will a mature Cassie eventually take over for Scott? One thing I think we can be certain about is that, however 'Endgame' turns out, new characters will begin to take center stage as soon as the original (Phase One) Marvel heroes step down. In this post, I want to focus on Cassie's most important appearances in comics.

Sharing her father’s powers of size changing ability (acquired again like her father by exposure to Pym Particles), Cassie started out as a background character and foil for Scott Lang’s adventures. Spending so much time around her father and his colleagues however, made her entrance into the super-hero life if not natural then at least not surprising. In her time as an active super-hero/villain she has been part of many groups and has gained, lost and regained her powers. Donning multiple identities she currently fights side by side with her father.

Cassie made her MCU debut in the 2015 ‘Ant-Man’ film played by Abby Ryder Fortson. She reappeared in the 2018 sequel ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’, and is portrayed in the current ‘Avengers: Endgame’ movie by Emma Fuhrmann.

Marvel Premiere #47 (April 1979) – First Appearance of Ant-Man II (Scott Lang) in Costume, First Appearance of Cassie Lang

With 1,802 copies of this comic on the CGC census, the first appearance of Cassie Lang in Marvel Premiere #47 has seen a steady climb in value since the MCU debut of Ant-Man. Scripted by David Michelinie and with art by Bob Layton and John Byrne, this comic was a very affordable key before news of the Ant-Man MCU film broke. A 9.8 blue label CGC graded copy sold for $95.60 in a 2009 Heritage Auction on October 11. Fast forward to 2013 and the same 9.8 was selling for around $200.00 (June 1, 2013 eBay sale). Today Marvel Premiere #47 in 9.8 has a FMV of $450.00. The three month average has seen it with mixed returns. After 4 sales in 9.8 returns are just barely positive at +0.2%. Returns in 9.6 were negative -5.2% after 10 sales and in 9.4 it’s seen positive returns of +25.2 after 4 sales. The last 9.8 sold for on 03/29/2019 for $475.00 (eBay).

Young Avengers #6 (September 2005) – First Appearance of Cassie Lang as Stature

I speculated on the first issue of this series in a recent post discussing possible speculation fallout from ‘Endgame’. Young Avengers comics are seeing a definite surge in value due to speculation concerning potential movie appearances of lead characters. This issue, with Cassie’s first appearance as Stature, is no exception. With 53 copies on the CGC census, the returns on this book are mostly positive over the last few years but short-term figures are mixed. The 3 month averages for returns on 9.8 grades is negative -2.8% (after 3 sales), 9.6 negative -43% after 3 sales and 9.4 is positive +70% after 2 sales. Current prices on those grades look something like this: 9.8 = FMV of $230.00, 9.6 & 9.4 = FMV of around $50.00.

Astonishing Ant-Man #6 (December 2015) – First Appearance of Cassie Lang as Stinger

In this comic Cassie first takes up the Stinger identity. Not enough graded sales to really get a sense of its current FMV, but going by eBay numbers this is an über-affordable key that can be found in NM condition for $10.00-$15.00.
