Cartoon Art MuseumMedia Release -- The Cartoon Art Museum will open its doors to Smithsonian Museum Day participants for free on Saturday, September 28th, 2013, as part of the Smithsonian magazine's ninth annual Museum Day Live! The Smithsonian magazine Museum Day is a nationwide event and offers free admission to any visitor and one guest with a Museum Day Live! Ticket to a participating museum or cultural institution.

Inclusive by design, the event represents Smithsonian's commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone, giving museums across all 50 states the opportunity to emulate the admission policy of the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C. Last year's event drew over 400,000 participants, and this year's event expects record-high participation.

The Cartoon Art Museum is one of a handful of museums participating in San Francisco, along with the deYoung, the Palace of the Legion of Honor, Museum of Vision, California Historical Society and the Chinese Historical Society of America Museum. The Cartoon Art Museum is the only museum in the Western United States that is dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of cartoon art in all its forms. The museum encourages the education of visitors through engaging and active events, such as their Cartoonist-in-Residence program that invites visitors to a free event to interact with current cartoonists. Through events and programming visitors are able to see cartoons in a museum setting, which is a unique experience regarding this popular art form.

The Museum Day Live! Ticket is available to download now at Smithsonian.com/museumday. Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! Ticket will gain free entrance for themselves and one guest at participating venues for one day only. One ticket is permitted per household, per email.
